Door doesn't open with touching the handle any more

Post by Lynnzer »

As it says.
The auto unlock when you touch the door handle seems to be non functional now. I can still click the key button to unlock but can't open the door with the keys in my pocket any more.
Any idea?

You know it might help a bit if you provided some basic information - considering you haven't even filled your profile in. We haven't got a clue what car you are on about, what model, what year.... Mystic Meg is self-isolating.

Ok, so can you confirm the following, as it may will help identify the possible cause:

Attempt the unlocking by touching the handle area on each door in turn (after the vehicle is re-locked). So I need to know whether it is just the driver door that is not unlocking or whether it is happening on all the other doors including the rear doors.

Secondly repeat the above tests, but on the 'Locking function' when pressing the button area on the door handle. So you would need to unlock the car by whatever means you can then attempt to lock the car / individual door by pressing the lock sensor on each handle.

This will help to determine if the issue is with one particular sensor or is more of a system issue.

Nothing Marc. Not a door handle that recognises either open or close.

Ok, so there are multiple reasons for this - which can go back to the BSI or the electrical harness between the BSI and the door lock or the door lock itself. In this case I can't see it being the door lock as all are exhibiting the same behaviour.

So first off, I would try resetting the ECUs using the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure. This will reset the ECUs. There are relevant parts relating to the hands free access element of some vehicles, so just follow the particular sections and resume the general procedure for the rest. Make sure you follow the timings and critically keep the doors shut as indicated, as we want all the networks to go to sleep.

I have the same issue with my Peugeot 3008 GT Premium (2021). The door will lock by pressing the handle but won't unlock by putting the hand behind the handle. This is the case for both driver and passenger door. Unlocks fine with the key fob. Have tried disconnecting and reconnecting battery but hasn't worked. Any ideas?

Seems odd both cars..
Have you replaced the key fob batteries recently, they are typically replaced every 2 years, at a service but not always.

Hi All . . I have exactly the same issue relating to keyless working . . .
Driver door only does not unlock! It will lock OK. (So handle sensing is OK)
Passenger side is working perfect.
Therefore, I have to open driver door with the keyfob. . . Then I normally lock it with the driver door handle . . No probs.
I am hoping that I don't need to go to the Citroen dealership to have the system reset . . . :-(
Can I reset myself without special scanner . . ?
Any help greatly received. . .

I have a ds3 crossback automatic 19nreg. The door hand handle on the rear passenger side doesn't open on unlocking the car and it doesn't come out when I use my fingertips nothing happens. The rear drivers side door handle and the passenger side front door handles sometimes don't come out but touching them with my fingers they do come out and sometimes they don't go in when car is locked I have no issue with the front drivers door handle. Can this be reset in the vehicle setting on the car or does it mean the handles are faulty and would need replacing and if replacing or repairing would they need programming

That's a common fault on DS5. Sensors in door handles are prone to fail over time due to various reasons, but it's mostly due to weather exposure (hot, cold and accumulated moisture inside).
A BSI reset may help to get it back to life for a certain time, but it will stop locking/unlocking the car soon after.

Only remedy is buying new handles from dealership (which is around £250 per handle - Marc will know better). Another option is buying a used one from a scrapped car and hopeing it's all good, but look for a facelift model (mid 2015 onwards). They're either improved in quality or at least been less exposed to weather conditions as they seem to have less issues over the original ones...
