Coding in DPF with diagbox

Post by crabhunter »

Today I fitted a new DPF to my 2012 Citroen Berlingo van. It was showing 100% cinder value and the maximum amount of Eolys had passed through it.
I cannot for the life of me find out where in Diagbox you tell it you've fitted a new one.
I have programmed in zero for the amount of Eoly fluid injected in, but it's showing 73% cinders and the mileage since fitting is the same as the mileage the van has done.
I cannot find any way of changing anything except the amount Eoly fluid.
Also, it's still reporting regen is disabled, so I daren't drive it too much for fear of clogging the new one up.
The old one looked spotlessly clean by the way,and was a doddle to fit.
I'd be so grateful if someone could point me in the right direction, thanks.

Mike - it should still be in the injection ECU menu - replacement parts / repair - it should be quite obvious - but may say FAP, Particle Filter / DPF.

Because the vehicle has not been told you have a new DPF - it is going on the old data - the DPF is just mechanical so the ECU has to be notified.
  • When topping up the additive a minimum quantity of 1.1 litres must be added and DV6 engines (which is yours).
  • Prime the Additive Circuit afterwards using the Diagnostic tool (that should also be in the same injection menu or under 'replacement parts'.
  • Again, to confirm, the additive counter must be set to zero after the topping up operation.
Just don't any any amounts or values other than zero. That will be for a completely different reason.

Should be no need to set anything to zero, just go into the repair options under the particle filter, and select replace the filter option.

I'm talking about if he tops up the additive again Richard. This is where Mike made the mistake last time of going into the wrong section and adding in a value - for something completely different.

Usually you don't set that to zero either - I would expect to put the amount in (as Mike did earlier) or the two I have done I just told it was refilled (one pouch, and one tank refill). When you tell it you've changed the DPF it sets the mileage covered to 0 automatically.

For topping up the additive, it is quite specific Richard (1.6 HDi 75 (DV6ETED4)

Reinitialisation: Additive ECU
CAUTION: Reset the counter of the additive ECU to zero, using the diagnostic equipment.

Thanks for the replies. I've found a similar post to mine on another forum and someone put up clear instructions as to where to find the option to tell it you've fitted a new DPF. Unfortunately, my setup does not have that option.
As to the refilling, on mine, you do not set it to zero but have to enter the amount of fluid replaced.
I have now found where I can look up the amount remaining and that is all looking well.
I tried updating my Diagbox but then my interface wouldn't work. I have updated the firmware once when I moved up to 7.xxx I might have to do that again.
I'm also thinking of getting a Delphi setup.
I have to get to the bottom of why replacing the DPF is not showing up as an option.
I have also been told that when Citroen report a new DPF is required, it is not, and simply telling the ecu it's had a new one works fine.
Too late now, I fitted a new one at £160 :(
I need to get regen working again else I'll soot up this new one.

In your earlier videos, 2 possibles:

1. In the engine ECU you didn't get to the bottom of the list, it might be in here?
vid2.JPG
2. In the particle filter there is an option for 'programming of the total quantity of additive injected into the particulate emission filter' - you could try this and set it to zero (!)

Incorrect internet rubbish Mike - the DPF has a limited working life - end of. The Cerine in the additive fluid cannot be burnt off - and it is this that leads to the eventual clogging of the filter and its replacement / or deep cleaning with appropriate chemicals.

The secondary issue is when the filter cannot be regenerated (for whatever reason - faulty additive pump or electrical fault or lack of additive fluid etc. etc.) it will fill with soot that would otherwise be burnt off.

There IS an option in replacement parts for the DPF replacement - you just have to find it. Try going to the main menu (where you select the Global Test) and choose the 'Maintenance' option - it may be in there.

Re: Coding in DPF with diagbox

This is doing my head in now!
I've just spent 45mins going through every option and I'm damned if I can find an option to replace the DPF or FAP.
The only option I can find allows me to program in the total quantity of additive passed through the filter.
I've set that to zero and it now shows zero when I look up the DPF parameters.
It's still showing the full mileage since fitting but the cinder count has gone down to 70 something percent.
It's still saying regen is blocked.
What is the lowest version of diagbox that covers 2012 cars?
Maybe I need an older version?
I updated the firmware of my interface today so I should be able to run higher versions now.
I'm almost at the stage of taking it to a garage now, and that's not something I do :(

Has the warning now gone off? It may just be saying regen blocked as the conditions are not yet met.

Mike can't find the section to notify replacement DPF, I'm going to dial in tomorrow, but for the benefit of interested parties, there were some options missing in the Berlingo replacement parts data on some earlier versions of Diagbox that was fixed in V7.58.

Hopefully we'll be able to find the correct menu.

Re: Coding in DPF with diagbox

Well, the forces certainly seem to be against me :(
I thought I might need the next version up of diagbox (7.58)
I can now see why last time I reinstalled everything I stopped at 7.57
All I'm getting now is "Data access problem"
I've installed networkframework 3.5sp1 or whatever it's called and checked that the two required services are running.
I then uninstalled Diagbox and reinstalled 7.02 but that didn't include my 2012 Berlingo
Then instead of updating directly to 7.57 I just updated to I think 7.06
Now I've lost activation.
maybe it's because I'm running it on Win10 64bit.
I might put in a spare hard drive and try it on Win7 32bit.
Any ideas how to get round "data access problem"? before I swap drives.

1) You need to update incrementally. Jumping directly to the version you want is not recommended as it relies on files already being there which won't be.
2) Win 10 64B not recommended as the hardware drivers may not be available - check for any exclamation marks under Device Manager.
3) Uninstalling doesn't fully remove the programme - registry entries are maintained.
4) Did you backup your licence file APPDIAG.SYS form the original installation? If so, copy that back to sort activation issues.
5) Leave it at 7.58
