There is a word for it.....Fata Morgana

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fata_Morgana_(mirage)

Of marginal colateral interest culled from wiki....Werner Herzog made a film Fata Morgana it which may or may not have had an interesting soundtrack depending if you like Leonard Cohen or not :-D

Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye Written and Performed by Leonard Cohen
Suzanne Written and Performed by Leonard Cohen
So Long Marianne Written and Performed by Leonard Cohen
Sea of Joy Written by Steve Winwood Performed by Blind Faith
Sweet Potato Written by Booker T. Jones Performed by John Renbourn

I'll select one from the list for todays Pickled Egg Jukebox selection in tribute to James' detective work.

nice shot, that, though am a bit unsure how your plans were hindered.

Read Chris' Gibraltar Rock post and explanation with interest too, a bit outside of my comprehension, but interesting nonetheless

Tripped a memory there Mick.
I recalled that there was a Black Swan in Whitby but had no inkling that they were a rare breed - there were often black swans in the harbour.

I have probably been in there in the sixties, memory is vague though. It enjoys the enviable reputation of being the worst pub in Whitby so it must be really abysmal.

Street View.

The odd thing about that is the traffic direction. For years traffic flowed in the opposite direction and it was a one way street. More recently it was a no car zone, deliveries before 09:00 and after 19:00 only.
I was born at the top end of that street :)
the tall beige house on the left
I was born in the room with the upper window. My grandparents were church wardens and the house belonged to the church.
You can see why there are traffic restrictions on that street.
I really must get myself to Whitby and investigate.
