My Citroen Service has been inactivated

Post by petef »

Some years ago I bought on Ebay a set of 4 data dvd's which were described as 'Citroen Workshop Manual' This turned out to be a copy of what we would now call Citroen Service - with Docbackup and Sedre etc. It has served me well over the years and allowed me to find part numbers, workshop manual info and wiring diagrams for my cars. The only issue I had was that the parts lookup from inputting VIN numbers was a bit flaky and stopped working for the C4 although it continued to be fine for the C5 and Xantia.
However this morning, in the middle of searching for the correct rear exhaust silencer for the C4, my laptop suddenly found a signal from the router - I thought it was too far away - and went online. Almost immediately Docbackup stopped working - it said it was out of date and needed updating. Disabling the wireless adapter has not brought it back - seems to be looking for an onlne connection to make it work now.
Does anyone know if it is possible to reverse the inactivation - possibly from changing a setting in the Docbackup programme files?
The other possiblity is to uninstall then reinstall everything - with the wireless adapter disabled - which I am not anxious to do for two reasons. Firstly It may not work anyway - some scraps of the programme may remain on the laptop and stop things from working,( I had this problem with Diagbox) and secondly, I left myself a note after the initial installation indicating that it took 5 hours......!
I seem to remember reading that Citroen Service is an online only facility now, presumably that is why I have been inactivated?
Have I lost everything???

In a nutshell, no you cannot in rdeactivate it.

In any case, PSA have removed the online lookup from VIN for the old offline version for some time now.

You’ll either have to completely uninstall it and clean the registry keys then reinstall, but don’t expect the VIN lookup to work.

Actually Marc I wanted to reactivate it - typo?

What I will probably do is attempt reinstallation on another laptop - the one that has a working Diagbox on it. However along the way I will need an installation code from a Citroen Service Box Regen tool. I cannot find one online and after several years I cannot contact the original seller so can anyone help here?

Somewhat belatedly I remembered about System Restore on XP and how it sets system check restore points automatically every so often. Restoring to a set point a month before the inactivation brought it back to life. Simples....😎
