I have a 2003 Peugeot 607 2.2 hdi auto. The gearbox is usually very smooth, but lately , when selecting reverse it goes in with a bang, then will only go into 3rd when drive selected. PRND is shown on the dash
after switching off and on again, the fault disappears, but its getting more frequent
The handbook says "abnormal operation" but doesn't say how to fix it
Anyone any ideas? Any help and advice gratefully received

You really need to get it read with Peugeot Planet 2000. If the gearbox has gone into a refuge mode or has thrown a wobbly, it will usually log a fault code int he ECU. That's what we need to determine what it's not happy about.
