C5 Parking sensor display works but no sound / Beep ?

Post by DSlover »

Hello again ...... My trusty 2010 59 plate C5 Exclusive Estate workhorse has developed a fault, the reverse sensors still work perfectly, and so does the flashing distance icon on the interior screen, but no beep or audible sound of any kind ? also the N/S headlamp very lower part daytime side light has blown, not in handbook ! ............. Thanks Guy's and Gal's ....much obliged. :?: ( My other DS5 is still all good ! )

I'll need the VIN for the C5 - I have your DS5 already, but not this one.

Ok, so if it is the DRL, these can be a pig to get out - especially if they are the original factory ones.

The good news is that they used to be about £40 a bulb (!) but they now sell these as either the bulb or the bulb holder.

The part for the bulb (HP24W) is 1616430880, cost £3.73 inc. VAT each
The Holder is 621698 and costs £13.75 each inc. VAT (although it doesn't specify if this is with or without a bulb) - I suspect without.

Item 12 below:
X7 DRL.PNG
As for the parking assistance

1) Have you connected up any diagnostic tool to it recently? It is known that sometimes some of the
Actia clones can leave the parking assistance ECU incorrectly configured if it has been interrogated.

2) Second possibility:- check in the boot area, for the black box that (on a saloon anyway) is located to the right of the spare wheel. That is the parking assistance ECU - make sure no liquid has seeped from the boot area onto the ECU. This happened to me when 5 lts of Halfords blackberry concentrated screenwash leaked out onto my ECU.

3) If the above are ok, the loss of audio can indicate a CAN+ power cut between the BSI and the RD4 Head Unit, or a battery positive cut off between the BSI and the RD4.

You can try doing a reset - but follow the timings and instructions here:

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

I wonder if somehow the audio function has been turned off (if this is possible). I only suggest this as, when Michel got his Skoda Octavia the reversing system did not show the visual information on the radio display (and, having had a similar spec Octavia as a company car, I knew it should do), and when we went looking through the menu we found that the visual option had been disabled. Enabling it got the display working again.

I know I am talking about a different make/model of car, but I thought it could be relevant.

Yes, those prices are direct from Citroen - which was surprising as they were £40 a pop not too long ago. The bulbs can be a faff trying to separate from the holder as they are secured by plastic lugs that are extremely tight at the neck - which, as a result of trying to keep all the tabs apart and trying to extract them can cause wither the tabs to snap, or the long pins from the bulb to break off. If they do break off, it can be difficult to extract all the pin from the holes before inserting the new bulbs in the holder.

Amazon sell the pair (Valeo) £47:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Valeo-HP24-Bul ... B016OVL2OG

So worth on the bulb change - and they should really be changed in pairs as the other one is likely to go soon too.

I would check with Citroen as to whether the holders contain the bulbs with them - which may be a better solution if they do for the less adventurous.

When I did mine, I had the intention of replacing the halogens with longer life whiter LEDs. You can see my post here - but mine were in so tight, I paid the dealer to part remove the bumper and retrieve the DRL bulb holders for me. I then made the modifications to the holders to accommodate the new LEDs (I had to trim the plastic to allow them to fit in tightly) before refitting myself:

Wow ..... who would have thought a bulb would be so difficult? i think I'll try and remove the bulb and holder first, i looked at the LED's myself, but really want "plug n play" as I'm not too bothered about aesthetics as it's the company workhorse estate, it's been lookef after by Citroen it's entire life, but at nearly 10 yrs old and 100,000 miles it no longer warrants their charges, and to be honest I'm pretty handy with the tools, if not a little stiffer and unable to move as fluidly as i once did, but I'll give it a go, although looking at it you're right .... what a pig of position !

Bear in mind these have to be turned a quarter of a turn to release and again on refitting - and if you do get them out, put some grease in the lamp holder thread when replacing.

Good luck - and don't for get to pre-book yourself into A&E for skin grafts on the knuckles. :-D

Well i got the bulb and holder out with only mild lacerations, however, the fun really started at Sportiff Main agent, said they do not sell the bulb separately, only with the holder, don't keep them in stock and £64.00 inc VAT, when i asked them to check this they proceeded to print off a directive to their parts dept stating exactly that, "HP24 bulb and holder is not separable and to be sold as complete unit" now we know they come apart, but they wete not interested, order only, and as complete unit ! .....Help .... any new ideas or sources as i am definitely NOT paying that for a bulb.

There are a couple of options you could look at, starting with LEDs (but you MUST check they are compatible). Here are a couple of choices, but please check they are suitable first;

Failing LEDs, how about these;

Or those on the Amazon link I gave you before:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Valeo-HP24-Bul ... B016OVL2OG

These are Valeo branded ones, so will be good quality and include the holders for a pair.

:roll: [-X Thank you guys, I love my Citroen's but understand why they are not everyone's cup of tea, French cars have always been hard to live with when it comes to normal everyday maintenance, almost any bulb you want is available easily and readily available online, but try getting just a standard HP24 "bulb only" for a Citroen / Peugeot headlight and you are stuffed. Nobody, not even our far east friends do just the bulb itself !
