Xantia Help required please!

Post by Wingz123 »

Morning all, newbie on here but not to online forums!

I own a 2000 Xantia 110bhp Forte and I must say I absolutely love the car to bits. I love the way it drives and had been well looked after mechanically by the previous owner. The bodywork does let it down slightly but that can all be sorted in good time.

Anyway....THE BIT I NEED HELP WITH!....I am trying to fit cruise control to the car. Some people said, get a PSA stalk from an equivalent 406 or something, remove the cowling to what should reveal a plug behind a blanking plate, plug it in, activate it on Lexia and away you go.......WRONG!

Stalk ordered and sat here in its box. Cowling was removed but no plugs or sockets behind any blanking plates here!

Please help, it is driving me crazy!

You will find most of the information you need (and some false leads) in this topic: viewtopic.php?t=39257 You need to read the whole thing I think to get an idea of what is involved...

The cars are not all the same and the 406 has got nothing in common with a Xantia. The Cruise switches are completely different part numbers between the 406 and the Xantia. On the Xantia there is a speed control housing that is not fitted to models without factory fitted cruise, so it won't work without that apart from checking other features like the harness and brake / clutch switches are there too

There were different electrical developments in 2000 for these models too.

Late Xantia HDI 110s were fitted with the same engine ECU as the 406 which has cruise control built in, but the Xantia does not have any of the wiring, you need to add all of the wires yourself, and fit a brake switch with the extra contact needed for the cruise control (these switches were more commonly fitted to high spec XMs). The topic I linked before has most of the information. There may be another topic by citroenxm describing how he made the same modification.

This is the module (item 3) on a late Xantia that you need to have too that I referred to:

Not needed on an HDi Marc - as Mike says the cruise function is built into the ECU. First thing to check for the OP is the ECU with Lexia / Diagbox to see if there is an option for RVV (I think, French for cruise). If it's not, then a new matched ECU and CPH body computer will be required first. I supplied the one Paul used off my scrap 2001 HDi.

I remember Paul (citroenxm) managed to modify a late Xantia HDi to accept cruise control. He may have posted how he did it on the forum. It did rely upon the fact that the 'cruise control program' was already in the ECUs somewhere.

The Citroen documentation does not mention the availability of cruise in the HDI ECU nor the necessary wiring, as the option was never officially available on the Xantia, but it was utilised on other PSA vehicles (e.g. the 406) that used the same engine and ECU.

That may not have helped, as it is possible the Xantia HDi would not have had cruise control as an optional extra (despite having the program code in the gubbins somewhere). It would not have had the required wiring to accept a stalk/brake pedal switch.

Cruise control was never a factory option for the Xantia HDI, so it won't be shown by VIN. It just happens that late HDI 110 ECUs have the hidden ability to perform the function which was offered on the Peugeot 406. I am not even sure that the part number of the ECU changed (it could be just software version).
