New remote fob options

Post by jimmylad007 »

Hi. So a few months ago, I lost the remote key to my 2008 C4. The spare I have is a non-remote key, which works fine but I’ve had enough of walking round to the passenger side every time I need to lock or unlock the car.

Have I got any options that will cost me less than £150 to have a new key programmed to the car? I’m not fussed about it starting the car or even having the blade, I just want to open the car with a button.

Failing that, has anyone ever succeeded in moving the keyhole to the drivers door?

Thanks!

The fobs can be bought cheaper (but have to be the correct type and frequency for your vehicle), but still have to be coded to the vehicle using a diagnostic kit Like Diagbox. There are members here with kits that may be able to help do this for you.

Check out the list of members on the map at the end of the link here:

As for moving the lock - no! It's not just a lock it is the electronic control mechanism (very little mechanical components) and has a specific wiring harness designed for RHD vehicles, so cannot just be moved!

Post up your VIN and I'll see which type of fob you have. It will then be up to you whether you want to get a blade cut or not. When you get a new fob, it will be compulsory to have BOTH fobs coded at the same time, or the original fob will be locked out. Aftermarket fobs vary significantly in quality, so will be dependent upon budget.

This isn't any help to you but I'm curious. Do the LHD cars have the key operated lock on the LH (driver's) or RH (passenger's) door?

Just checking - and confirm that the wiring harnesses are different for left and right sides - but I suspect that they cut a few corners here Paul...

The RHD drive C4s from what I can see all have the key barrel lock on the passenger side - so I suspect (and being these are all made in France) that they may of cut a few corners and not bothered to implement the lock on the Right Hand Door for UK models :-D

It seems the same for the later B4 variant from 2010.

The C4 Picasso has the lock on both sides, as does the C5 X7.

Well, at least it will keep you fit!
