Ds5 fuel consumption

Post by Neilied »

Hi all

Just wanted to poll my mpg info. I’ve had the car a few weeks and have put 650 miles on my 2.0Hdi and so far with a few motorway runs and normal dual carriageway and urban daily drive I’ve only managed an ave of 31.9mpg a far away figure from what’s on paper. Just wanted to ask what others are getting and whether I should be checking anything.

Thanks

Neil

Admin Edit:Note the poster has a DS5 with the 163 BHP DW10CTED4 engine, for reference when comparing. :)

I think it would help if you put your specific engine code up (or your VIN if you don't know it and I'll tell you what it is), as there are 5 2.0 HDi engine variations for the DS5 and each will of course have different consumption figures. Without comparing like for like it will be chalk and cheese. :)

My DS5 2.0hdi automatic consumption:
- urban drive @ 10-10,5l (average speed 23km/h)
- highway at 130km/h @ 7l
- yearly average (mixed urban + motorway + highway) @ 8,5-9l

(Admin Note: Poster has the same DW10CTED4 engine)

Thanks admin for the heads up. I assume that the measurement is L/100km which converts as 31-33MPG which is near mine. So seems correct urban cycle on brochure is 33mpg

Extra urban is up in the 50’s and combined 40’s. my commute is 50/50 so was hoping to hit 40. Have a 4 hour mostly motorway trip in a few weeks. Challenge myself to improve my mpg.

Maybe a better engine for economy. I just did a round trip of 270 miles yesterday. 80% motorway with light traffic. Gave ave speed of 48mph mpg came out as 43.2. Was hoping to hit a little higher but we were 4 in a car and some luggage.

id have thought you'd get a better mpg than 43.2.
That seems pretty low to me,maybe get a mechanic to give the car a service and health check you should get better consumption than that on motorway/dual carriage way.

I've had the 2013 DS5 2.0hdi 163 for roughly 18 months
I'm running the 18" wheels (this matters because using the 16" wheels can lower fuel consumption considerably).

My most common use case is driving around town, with the weekly short motorway trip to facilitate DPF regeneration.
Overall mileage is at 41mpg.
mileage for each fill-up

Code: Select all

miles	mpg	brand
360	34.16	Shell
427	41.64	Shell
417	43.41	Morrisons
278	38.08	Tesco
462	42.69	Morrisons
442	38.14	Morrisons
348	38.10	Shell
350	36.29	Shell
352	38.75	Sainsburys
434	40.56	Morrisons
395	39.85	Tesco
359	36.26	Texaco
453	40.64	Tesco
442	42.31	Morrisons
359	38.61	Morrisons
429	46.26	Morrisons
370	38.22	Morrisons
576	60.39	Shell VPower
437	43.44	Shell VPower
431	41.53	Shell VPower
According to my experience, it is easy to do well over 60mpg in the motorway.
In town, hard to do much better than 38mpg for my commute.

I've started trying shell vpower to see if it made any noticeable difference, and it kind of did as some engine stuttering in specific conditions is almost gone.
Fuel consumption seems slightly better but not really relevant.

I always use a tank of V-Power or Gulf Super Diesel (since Shell changed to a Gulf) once a month as the additional fuel system cleaners help keep everything running nicely.

I've been using Shell V-Power in all my vehicles since its launch, I was using its predecessor, which I can't recall the name of, prior to that and I have been very pleased with the overall results. The engines have all run exceedingly smoothly, noticeable difference when I have had to put standard fuel in when VP not available and with VP the consumption is definitely better although probably only due to more power with less throttle. Also over the years I have had a gradual improvement in oil colour and emissions have always been good on all the MOT's I have taken. This has been compiled over my last ten or so vehicles ranging from the 2.8 TD Shogun down to the 1.6 Mazda 323F and including 4 citroens, 3 C5s and the XM. I recommend it. I even use it in the bikes!! :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Well I have had my DS5 2.0l hdi auromatic for two years and use supermarket fuel in it,I have never got less than 40mpg in summer it is around 45 mpg,I always take the mileage of the trip and fill up with the pump nozzle all the way into the tak and stop when the handle clicks off, that way you can see how much fuel has gone in and along with the trip mileage and the calculator you get a accurate idea of the MPG. :-D
