Megane 1.6 CC Fault Codes

Post by mickthemaverick »

My friend has just asked me if I can decode her fault codes on her Megane Convertible. They are DF080 and DF196 read by a local garage. Needless to say I have no renault information so any pointers would be most helpful. DV06 MYU is the reg. Thanks in advance!!

Thread on DF080 here,

Renault Scenic II 2006 1.6 Automatic Dephaser Circuit Error DF080

Cured itself when the timing belt was done in the post.

Thanks Neil, I will pass the potentially bad news on to my friend. I tried searching for the fault codes before I posted but nothing came up for me as I don't have your forum searching experience I guess  or am I just a numpty #-o

I have no Idea what a dephaser circuit is though! Dont think I want one. I'll search for the other one when University Challenge is finished!

Well followers of POTD will have got at least one question right on University Challenge. Up popped our old friend the Pine Marten on the Picture starter!

This thread has some discussion on the df196 fault code

https://www.renaultforums.co.uk/threads ... ms.265073/

"The faults this morning were df196 track 1 pedal sensor, open circuit or short circuit to earth."

Presume the "pedal" is the accelerator.

Thanks again Neil, I had also found mention of DF196 and it appears to be a common indication of any incorrect electrical voltage detected in various sensor circuits. Thus it is likely to have been triggered as a subset of the DF080 fault which relates to the camshaft dephaser pulley. As far as I can work out the dephaser is a three legged rotary piston which transmits drive from the cam belt to the cam shaft. Its position within the pulley surround is adjusted as a function of engine speed to correspondingly adjust the cam shaft position and hence the valve timing which is where the engine gets its Variable Valve Timing from. It appears that the locking pin in the unit wears, allowing play and upsetting the camshaft timing to generate the fault code. it seems a modern way to replace the old distributor balance weights which adjusted ignition timing with engine speed!! :) I stand to be corrected :?:
