lds seepage

Post by BillM »

Hi, All

I have been ill for a few weeks and my x7 has. been lying unused.
On starting today to turn over the engine, I noticed lds had been seeping through the pinhole on the cap, is this normal. It had been side on to a small slope

Thank you
Bill

It probably means the fluid has been forced back against the tank side and has seeped out under pressure and weight of the car at an angle.

The cap pin hole is designed to release small amounts of pressure. You should check the fluid level on level ground on the lowest suspension setting though. The level should be between 'a' & 'b' - again with the suspension on the lowest setting and then switch the engine off.

Thanks Marc, I'll try that.
Do you think it would help if I slacken off the cap starting the engine?

I wouldn't to be honest, as the system is pressurised - and you don't want any LDS getting anywhere near the BHI / Pump if it is under slightly higher pressure. Just get it to flat ground, leave it to stabilise and then check levels as above.
