Can I have a wiring diagram please ! Xantia

Post by zs&tas »

Hi, my car has gone back to being silly to start , immobilizer spazing out and the like . I would like to run a fresh 12v across the car to the ECU , and maybe that double relay .
Obviously there's a bundle of wires over there , many the same colour I'd rather try not to probe them all to work this out ! Lol
So an ECU pin out wire colour diagram and double relay system diagram would be great If someone has this , cars a 1.8 8v 1996 auto.

You'll need to pop a VIN up as there is other info we may need.

I've sent him a message with a link to this thread - but he may not be on the forum at present, so bear that in mind if he doesn't respond straight away.

Hi zs...

Thanks for the VIN number.
Have looked up the earliest Xantia wiring diagrams I have here for your car:

Xantia 5dr 1.8i 8v 103, auto BVA4 4HP14, engine XU7JP (LFY)
RP (production) number 6801 = mfg.date of 23 June 1995

These diagrams are from the earliest set I have (dates March 1977), but are for your engine.
They cover injection-ignition...
XU7JP inj-ign 1.jpg
XU7JP inj-ign 2.jpg
XU7JP inj-ign 3.jpg
Hope they are helpful.
I can only post these images here as JPG images. Click on each to enlarge.
The originals are high-quality PDFs, which I can e-mail to you if you PM me your e-mail address.

I have found these, which are apparently 1996, but I don't have the index for the book they came from so can't be sure...

Right, checking some wiring today for silly slow starting fault . Firstly how do I get the big body connetor behind the drivers head light out ? (Pic) also could slow starting have anything to do with the ignition switch maybe ? Thinking of things I can check , also I'm prob being stupid but I can't see how the starter is switched on ? Lol there's two wires ones neg and positive with the car sat here doing nothing ?

Hi zs,

Starting diagrams (for petrol auto) as follows:
XU7JP starting_1.jpg
XU7JP starting_2.jpg
XU7JP starting_3.jpg
If you have slow/sluggish cranking with a well-charged battery, also check the main battery connectors, and clean up the contact surfaces.
If either main battery connector gets at all warm after a bit of cranking, the connectors are best renewed. The original lead (Pb) lump connectors develop internal resistance with age, and lose their grip on the cable. To replace, cut off the old connector, and clean up the copper multistrands back to bright metal. Solid brass connectors are the best bet.

I can't help with advice on the connector behind the headlight, but someone else here surely will.

White exec thanks for your help, I replaced the battery terminal connectors and chopped 1" off each lead and soldered the ends before the summer , luckily all's been well all summer but now the issue is back , I have just found under starting that the double relay nr the ECU gets 10.5v when cranking , the battery doesn't get that low so I think I will run a new wire across . It might not be my issue but it surely can't hurt

If you didn't do it already, you must push upwards the grey plastic part over the brown plug and simultaniously pull it to the back. Becareful, as it is fragile, first try to make it move freely upwards and after that try, little by little, to pull it. Actually this is a 30 pin brown connector with locking. You should have similar one at the opposite side of the engine.

10,5 V at cold starting I think is not that bad.
Can you tell me, where the main engine earth strap is mounted over the gear box? Is it at one of the bolts for the starter motor or somewhere else?
And also, can you tell me if you have serrated washers for the main + and - cables, and how are they placed in respect to the cable ends - under (touching the base metal) or over each cable end?
