Was there charge getting to the battery with the engine running or not?
If the starter isnt turning you need to check that there is a power supply to the solenoid when turning the key to the start position & that there is a sound earth to the engine block.
If it wasnt charging & also not cranking the engine the common thing to both these faults at the same time is an engine earth issue.

Should be a fairly simple fault to diagnose, check for a crank feed at the ignition switch, if no crank feed at switch then the switch is faulty. If there is a feed there you need to trace the wire from the ignition switch to the starter.
Does the engine start if power is supplied direct to the starter motor solenoid?

Hi all thought I would share my starter problem.
2012 Peugeot Bipper van 72k.

Random starting problem.
I would rock it in gear and sometimes this worked.
I would tap engine block with a hammer sometimes this worked.
In the end wouldn’t start at local tescoes.
RAC man jumped it and told me my starter motor was on the way out.
Got a quote of £260 to replace it.
Brought one myself £116.
Was a complete git to change mostly from underneath and used a mirror. (Remove 10mm bolt from right of bracket underneath and it bends out of the way allowing motor to drop out).
Van was the bloody same. Would not start.
Turned out the engine earth was corroded. Simple fix now starts on the button.
Anyone need a spare starter 🤣
