Intermittent camshaft signal lost

Post by Agour »

Hi all,

I have been getting a fault for "intermittent camshaft signal lost" (or words to that affect).

This disables the cruise control and speed limiter from working until the car is restarted.

I took it to an auto electrician who diagnosed the fault, and said it was likely the plugs, or wiring between sensor and rest of car. Sensor was brand new at that time.

He dissasembled the plug a bit on the sensor to make sure it looked ok.

As the fault has come back, I'm going to see if I can trace the wiring back myself and check out the condition of the plug on the other end. I think I know where to look, but want to be sure.

Just wondered if anyone has the wiring diagrams or images for a 2009 C5 tourer MK3?

Thanks!
Paul

What are the fault codes and pop up your VIN so we know what you have. It is the engine ECU that will disable all speed control functions like cruise and will likely have enabled a backup mode until the fault is rectified. If you have the codes that would be a help, but in any case we'll need the VIN for a wiring diagram.

I'm not sure of the exact error number, I lost the code unfortunately. I'd need to plug it back into my friends computer to find it out.

I'll send you the vin now, thanks :)

You can post the VIN here, as (for security reasons) it will be obscured so only Moderators can read it.

Are you sure? P0344 is not listed as a fault code against the Delphi 3.4 engine management system on your vehicle.

P0341 and P0342 are though....

P0341 is a problem with synchronisation of the camshaft.
P0342 is a Camshaft sensor - loss of the camshaft signal.

In either case it may be worth replacing the sensor to see if that resolves the issue as both of the above codes relate to the sensor for the most part. Item (15) on the diagram.

Part number 1920QN, £39.40 inc. VAT from Citroen

I will double check on that.

The sensor is only about 2 months old at most, and was a bougicord one from euro car parts.

Think it's worth swapping to one from Citroen?

Eurocarparts are not recognised as the most reliable supplier.

Absolutely^ I wouldn’t buy anything from them - a total disaster and parts are useless.

In the end I swapped it for a genuine OEM part from a dealer.

The problem hasn't come back in about 800 miles of driving, looks like it was the sensor all along! :)

Thanks for coming back to update us - this is another testament to the utter waste of rations ECP are. This will be another one to add to the list of crap parts sold by this outfit. I would always recommend OEM or reputably branded sensors wherever possible as it saves you a lot of grief and wasted time in the long run. :)

Citronut (may his soul rest in peace) use to call ECP "Eurocrapparts".
