Must say that is a cracking S1 2.0 VSX miss my old one that engine is awesome :)

My Xantia failed MOT with similar corrosion about a year ago, rear end of sills both sides. I found a classic restoration place via a couple of searches, coincidentally next to where I used to rent some workshop space. I took it for them to look at, then they phoned back later - they had a slight gap as they were waiting for some VW camper parts, so I went straight there, cycled home, and was back for a retest the next afternoon. £500. The tester asked who had done it, seemed to be quite impressed with the job, so I hope it's good for a few years if the rest of the car can keep up.

Glad I'm not alone with pulling the trigger on a bit of a pricy job on a car with low market value. :) Good luck in long term!

Took it to a local shop and the corner responsible for MOT failure is rotten both inside and outside, so needs some painting as well. Three other corners need fixing as well, with a hole behind front left tyre and rot elsewhere. It has been driven without mudguards on gravel roads, which didn't help. With all corners fixed + bottom cleaned and coated, it's going to cost between 800 and 1000 euros. With 141 thousand km on the odometer I think this Xantia will be on the road for quite a few more years. And now that I made the final decision to keep this for longer, it needs new spheres and brakes so down the rabbit hole we go. :D

The rot at the rear end of the sills is often caused by missing or distorted end plugs as mentioned here

Also many posts and pictures dealing with it in this blog. Read pages last →first to find them.

Thanks for the pointers - and it was indeed missing for an unknown period of time from the left side, which was worse off, and replaced with tape. The latter probably didn't help much. Right side plug is still intact.

Anyhow it will be opened up and replaced with fresh sheets of metal. The worst corner will be dealt with early next month, rest later as the garage is rather swamped currently. Goal is to do it properly without a rush.

Have a look at Xantia Sill End Bung i bought a couple for mine after i had a large water ingress :)

You're in good company, I had to spend near on £500 to have the A/C compressor replaced and the system leak tested and re-gassed on my Xantia V6 a few months ago. More than I paid to buy the car six years ago, :lol: but the alternative was to scrap one of the last 28 Xantia V6's on the road in the UK before its time, and early in the lockdown as well when finding a replacement car would have been nigh on impossible. :(

And no, I couldn't just not use the A/C, the shaft in the compressor had actually snapped, causing the pulley to wobble around and create a horrendous scraping noise... :shock: A few months later I don't regret it. The car has some sentimental value to me beyond just the enjoyment I get out of driving it and will almost certainly be my last Hydro-pneumatic car. :( So until it's properly dead (or legislated off the road by low emissions zones) I plan to hang onto it.

North Lanarkshire means the A/C has to be on most of the time to keep the car from misting up in those damps conditions :)
Mine goes in for MOT tomorrow with the added cost of pads and discs all round due to a school boy error so guess with oil and filter changes guess i will be £500 worse off but then she is only just run in, passed the 100k mark 2 weeks ago :)

Nah, it's not been that damp this year... pretty hot and sunny actually, especially during the lockdown. :)

New discs and pads on mine last year although I had to remove one rear disc before this years MOT to fix an issue with disc runout that was causing the rear brake test to be marginal the previous year. Happily the brakes passed with flying colours this time.

Note to self, always measure the runout of newly fitted discs and investigate and resolve if it's too high...

I should have been in Millport this week had everything planned for our 25th wedding anniversary with a visit to the Edinburgh Tattoo all paid for and yet i find myself sat in deepest Dorset watching the rain come down wondering what went wrong lol.
And the first time in my ownership of a Xantia ( had a few ) i am letting someone else do the brakes :(

I'll figure it out - I actually have a glass fibre DIY plug, but I'm not entirely convinced it's waterproof - it's a very tight fit so probably OK with a gasget.

I totally get it, V6 Xantias are amazing. Haven't seen many for sale lately, a few well kept ones are listed at 4.5k€ here.

Speaking of, I think I'm set for life with this car's A/C - It has none. :lol:

The sill bung (blanking plug) is still available from Citroen, under that pt.no. 96 130 325.
Any Cit/Peu parts counter should be able to supply.
