You have the basic RD4 system on your C5.

Options are to upgrade to the later RD45 which incorporates Bluetooth within the head unit. You may need an updated screen and it will need VIN coding and configuring within the BSI.

There are other options for full telematics units (MyWay (RNEG), eMyWay (RT6), but these need apart from the Head unit and new large colour screen - a new fascia, wiring, GPS / GSM aerials, microphone connections and configuration.

Otherwise, leave the Head unit as it is and get an aftermarket unit for bluetooth / MP3 - something like one of the Yatour boxes that mimic a CD changer to play MP3s. They come in a variety of units that offer different functionality.

Great thanks for replying, I will probably use the latter advice rather than changing the head and potentially the screen.

Just a quick update I’ve decided to get an rd45 and a new screen from eBay it will come vin coded, is there a set procedure for replacement of the head unit and screen?
Also if anyone can offer any advice on how to get the screen out and the new one in.

Thanks in advance.

Just make sure you have disconnected the battery following the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure before dismantling and unplugging the unit as the connections are still live with the ignition off. Disconnecting the screen connections with power on can fry the unit.

Bear in mind though that although the supplier is VIN coding it for you, there are other configuration options for Country and various other setting that have options - so just to be aware.

As for removing the screen, you'll need to remove the lower dashboard trim strip that will show bolts to remove the panel that holds the air vents in (be careful removing this).

RD45 Trim A.PNG
RD45 Trim B.PNG
RD45 Trim C.PNG
The RD4 radio unit is removed using these type of removal pins:

The unit will slide out and the connectors are accessible. Always disconnect the Quadlock connector (the large square connector) first and reconnect it last.

Be aware that the wiring to the microphone on the RD45 goes via pins that were not used on the RD4, so a new microphone cable, or some rewiring, is required for Bluetooth calls to work.

As Marc has said, don't be surprised if a diagnostics session is required to fix the configuration, I think that a parameter in the BSI may need adjusting to enable Bluetooth.

I've checked and although you have an RD4 (not RD45) system there is a Nomad bluetooth unit installed - which should be providing the bluetooth connectivity.

So it is important that you fully remove the previous phones (make sure they are actually deleted from the system). You'll then need to add a new phone from the menu which should put it into search mode - which you'll need to check with the phone at the same time and pair it if it provides a code.

Did that a few times , didn’t work , still doesn’t connect . I also tried with 3-4 phones and also different codes (1111,0000,1234) still nothing .
I cant seem to find the difference between RD4 and RD45 .
I may also say that i have usb and aux in the armsrest.
Another strange thing is that i have greyed out the DEFINE VEHICULE PARAMETER.is that normal ?

The RD45 was a later version of the Basic RD4 and contained the bluetooth hardware inside the head unit. The RD4 as in your case needed a Nomad Bluetooth / handsfree unit that could be specified as an option back in the day.

That setting looks to be the setting for changing some vehicle options like rear wiper in reverse gear etc...

Hi

I’m in need of some help please.
I have fitted the new screen, however when I pulled the rd4 out has two cables where the rd45 has one.

Thanks in advance

Can you take a photo of the RD4 and RD45 so that we can see what you are talking about?

For both RD4 and RD45 there are several variants, some have a single antenna and some have two (or even three, but that is a different story).

The RD45s coming from China mostly only have a single antenna socket.

The RD45 with a single antenna should work OK, but the FM signal will not be as strong. I suggest that you try listening to a weak FM station with each antenna lead connected in turn to see which one works best for you.
