Hi all, I was hoping someone out there could shed some light on this problem.
I have an error message popping up, "...Speed control system faulty" When it happens the engine loses power and runs proper ropey! Also, the tick over increases to around 1300 and is very uneven??
When I touch anything on the cruise control stalk the message is repeated (as it is only displayed for a few seconds initially). The engine runs normally once I have pulled over and switched the ignition off and on again. It can be minutes or hours between the error messages popping up and I can not identify any driver or environmental causes- eg...harsh acceleration/wet-hot weather ect....
Its an 07 plate 407sw sport on 60000 miles and otherwise runs perfic.
Any advice/ideas appreciated.
Thanks peeps...Warrick.

Re: Speed control system faulty
Hi Warrick - When there is a problem with the fuelling / air / emissions / the Injection ECU will go into a backup mode depending on the issue. This will limit your power and disengage cruise control and some other functions depending on the fault.
The best thing is to get it read with Diagbox and post up the fault codes, then we will be able to assist further. There are too many possibilities without the fault code. We do have a member list with those offering to help with a Diagnostic:

At the end is link to a Google map showing where the members on the list are. If you find one, send them a private message, but be aware that not all of these are on the forum all the time.

Thank you kindly Marc, I appreciate your help. I will try and get my mits on the fault codes and pop them on this thread.
Again, Thank you.

Hi, hope you're still with me.
I have 2 fault codes P12A5 & P0087
Googled it and I ain't got a clue, any ideas??

Re: Speed control system faulty
Pop your VIN up here so I can determine codes as they relate specifically to your engine ECU Warrick.

Re: Speed control system faulty
Ok, so you have the DW10BTED4 138 Engine with Delphi 3.5 Injection ECU. Here are the 2 fault codes and their descriptors:
So initially it would seem you have a problem with Injector No 2 - which may or may not be a factor in the second fault P0087.
So at least you have a few pointers now.

Fault code | P12A5 |
After sales description of the fault code | Correction of injector flow rate cylinder 2: Injector jammed closed or cylinder problem |
Description of the diagnostics | The ECU compares the flows injected by each injector individually. The fault is returned if the injector has a flow which differs by more than 5 mg/stroke in relation to the other injectors for 1 minute (at idle) |
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics | Flow injected more than 5 mg/stroke at idle |
Conditions of disappearance of the fault | Driving for 5 minutes |
Down-grade modes if fault present | Deactivation of processing of the accelerometry Deactivation of the speed limiter Deactivation speed limiter until the next time the ignition is switched on Deactivation of the cruise control Deactivation cruise control until the next time the ignition is switched on Deactivation of the accelerometry strategies |
Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message | No OK |
Main customer complaints likely | Lack of power Noise Engine hesitating, cutting out Starting problem |
Suspect areas | Injector: Mechanical failure (Injects too much) Injector: Electrical failure (Jammed open) Compressions: Incorrect |
Fault code | P0087 |
After sales description of the fault code | High pressure fuel regulation: The measured rail pressure is too low in relation to the set point |
Description of the diagnostics | The ECU detects a difference of 180 bars to 250 bars for 3 to 6 seconds between the rail pressure set point and the measured rail pressure |
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics | Consult the associated contexts for the Pcode forwarding conditions |
Conditions of disappearance of the fault | Driving for 5 minutes with several full load accelerations for 10 seconds |
Down-grade modes if fault present | Deactivation of processing of the accelerometry Deactivation of the speed limiter Deactivation speed limiter until the next time the ignition is switched on Deactivation of the cruise control Deactivation cruise control until the next time the ignition is switched on Request for Delayed Engine Stop Deactivation of the accelerometry strategies |
Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message | Warning lamp MIL |
Main customer complaints likely | Jerking/stalling Diesel fuel consumption a bit higher Fluid leak/smells (diesel fuel, oil, etc.) Lack of power Starting problem |
Suspect areas | Engine ECU (Software not up to date) Poor fuel or polluted fuel (petrol, deposit, etc.) Problem on the fuel low or high-speed circuit (hose, tank, diesel fuel filter, etc.) Fuel injector Electrical harnesses Connectors High Pressure Fuel Pump Fuel pressure sensor |

Re: Speed control system faulty
Can you think of anything specific that would connect the 2 faults?
eg.. Could a faulty injector ["Correction of injector flow rate cylinder 2: Injector jammed closed or cylinder problem" (albeit intermittent)] cause ["High pressure fuel regulation: The measured rail pressure is too low in relation to the set point"]?
Just an example.....What I am asking is if (with your experience) anything jumps out at you that might narrow it down??
Sorry to be a pain Marc, and thank you.

Yes the common item would seem to be injector 2 Warrick. You may be able to get it tested by a diesel specialist to confirm though.

fault code: P1351 manufacturer control
What is mean and how to fix that?
