remove centre console ?

Post by tomj25 »

hi all, i need to replace the centre console ( i think thats what you would call it ) to to mine being broke, its the part that wraps around centre just below gear stick, as far as i can see its a complete piece from drivers door to passenger door, i have removed glove box , ash try and the plastics around sides, and on drivers side removed plastics below steering wheel and fuse box, so im just left with what looks like as i said a complete piece, i just cant see how this comes off as it gos up above main dash, sorry if im not to clear i will post some pictures once it gets a bit lighter

Post up your VIN as you really haven't stated what year the vehicle is either. I'm assuming a Xsara Picasso - but your VIN is required if you want some help.

I'm afraid that whole piece is part of the dashboard strengthener that holds the glovebox and everything else together - that grey panel holding the black gear leaver trim section is not separately available - it is part of the whole thing.

I've accidentally had a plastic clip disappear behind the dash after falling through the radio hole while I was swapping it. I've undone the screws to the side panels but they still wont come off! I am assuming you have to remove the ashtray and cubby at the front but cant find any screws etc.

How can I take all of these off please?

Please try and be a little more precise - what are you trying to remove? Clip from where?

Sorry. The clip was from a bluetooth microphone. It fell off as I was removing it and was pulling the wire through the dash when I changed my stereo. I watched it disappear into the depths of the dash. I think it may have got stuck somewhere. I wanted to remove the sides of the centre console to try and retrieve it as I think it is caught up in the heater matrix controls - where the cable comes down to adjust the temperature? I hope this is making sense. I know there are two screws each side to remove the panels. However, I think they are attached in some way to the front section and I don't know how to remove it.

As I mentioned in a previous post in this thread, the whole plastic trim under the gear level and round the sides to the glove box is one part. However, if you want to get into the radio / heater cavity:

I assume you have already taken the radio out using the 2 screws under the flaps of the old radio.
Use a trim tool to carefully lift the gearbox lever plastic surround up that is connected to the gear lever leatherette cover (marked by green arrows below).
That may expose a couple of screws (if memory serves - but I'm not sure) that you may need to take out.
Then using trim removal tools, you can carefully prise up and lift the entire plastic surround (marked by yellow arrows below).

Carefully unclip and raise this - but you should be able to move it pver the gear lever and put it aside.
Then you will have access to the screw holding the heater control unit in place. Be aware if you have the non-digital unit that there will be control cables going to the temperature / adjustment dials, so be careful of these. But this may give you enough room to see underneath and look for your clip.

Thanks for that. I have already removed the panel, and the heater controls to try and locate it. The images show the cubby/ashtray removed and the sides of the centre console also removed. I need to get to the area around the heater matrix. That's my next step. How do I do it please?

The side A/C panels are removed as follows:
Picasso Dash Cover A.PNG
Remove (on either side of the central console):
The screws (2), (3), (5) and (6)
The plastic peg (1) using the trim removal tools.

Unplug:
The cigar lighter
The ash tray lighting

Remove the air conditioning cover (4).

These are the only panels you can remove short of removing the dash....
