Bluebell's appointment with the MoT tester today was at this rather magical garage in Paggers...

Located right opposite the Aston Martin works...

The MoT bay looks like this and I spent a while high up in there sitting in Bluebell at the top of the ramp...

Service is old-fashioned and excellent :D

The odd name of the garage comes from the premises being a former coaching inn of that name and in fact it's one of the oldest buildings in the town, albeit in a very poor state of repair now and in dire need of some serious refurbishment... Parts of the frontage are held up with scaffolding and all of the upstairs rooms are now out of bounds...

One day I'll run past it and find nothing left but a pile of rubble!

Tidy and well managed Peter, as is the whole of the establishment... It's just like my house really, clean, tidy, well organised but just a bit dog-eared and wearing a bit of a patina!

North Berwick, East Lothian not to be confused with Berwick-Upon-Tweed Northumberland.

Nice image of the East End Garage, the car no doubt roughly dates the image. Under cover petrol pumps.

Don't know why didn't think at the time, but this is the rather old looking (and is) garage I took my X7 for a check over when I was struggling to get it running:

Looks very similar today, just a touch less black and white!

Not sure if Google maps / Street view link will work, but here goes:

I went into a Vauxhall garage in St Austell in the '50s because one of the rear springs had broken on my Cresta, they only had three or four leaves which gave a nice soft ride, the only problem being that if you accelerated away a bit sharpish on a wet road and hit a drain cover the wheel would spin and when you got back onto the tarmac it would grip, wind the spring up and snap it.

Go and have a walk round the town said the mechanic which I did and went back a couple of hours later and there it was waiting for me - bill? £4.00 please sir.

Not quite a garage but in the third of my three-in-one 'spot' from today, here's a nice petrol pump...

I'm in two minds whether or not it is a genuine restored pump or a good reproduction...

Thoughts?

I would suggest that is a repro model made for decoration. It appears to be a Sky Chief model 39, details here, which has been painted in the colours of the ford pumps as shown below:

Well that's my best guess :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Doesn't look like anything I have seen that's functional. I bought and old pump from the breakers in the '70s when we had our own diesel tank, when diesel got to dear and we stopped using it we left it in the hedge and it went a bit rusty, put it on Ebay and got £400 for it! I think I gave a tenner for it complete with a new hose.

They have a few on Mathewsons auctions which go for a lot of money and it you want a genuine globe for it they go for about the same price as the pump. Mine was an Esso diesel pump which was probably a bit rare.

Not that familiar a sight in Northumberland a Gulf Branded Filling Station/Garage/Shop. Decent colourful sign got the nod for a shutter click

and this goes into the interesting corrugated iron category for the domestic garage although conceivably could have had something to do with the Post office next to the tracks just round the corner.
