54 C3 1.4HDI Door unlock fault FIXED

Post by MikeT »

This is the second continuation of this post viewtopic.php?f=3&t=60625 now the first problem has been fixed.

The following faults were logged

RADIO - Permanent fault. Of the radio aerial input (yet radio reception is perfectly clear)
AIRBAG - Temporary fault. Passenger's airbag deactivation Not Defined (P206F)
MULTIFUNCTION DISPLAY - Intermittent fault. No permanent positive of the display
INJECTION - Permanent fault. Exhaust Gas recycling excessive flow detected (P0402). Permanent fault. Pre-post heating relay circuit coherence (P1351).

After clearning them down (the INJECTION fault erasing failed, stating "Communication interruption during fault erasing") there remains the RADIO aerial fault and the INJECTION faults.

Checking the RADIO CONTROL configuration in COM2000 I'm shown this. Zoot alor!
Capture.JPG
However, this post has been raised to address an evident fault with the door locks, which hasn't been flagged by the diagnostics. The only Lexia indication something's amiss I can find so far is within the BSI DOOR LOCKING parameters that shows "Front Left Door" status as "????"
The physical fault being, all doors are locked and only using the key in the driver's door can the driver's door be unlocked. Pressing any lock/unlock buttons, including two in the cabin, results in all doors being deadlocked only, requiring the driver to wind down the window and insert the key in the external lock to get out.

As usual, my first port of call will be relevant fuses but I'm not so hopeful it's such an easy fix this time.

Ignore that last lexia screen Mike - it is normal for none of those functions to be active on that model.

Don't worry about the radio aerial fault, its a phantom fault & will be in almost every RD3 radio you check with Lexia.
Think we really need a wiring diagram for the CL.

Seeing as there's only one fuse listed I think my next planned step is to try the door actuators through Lexia.

p.s. In case it's relevant (ie like the sidelamp light indicating BSI was in BackUp Mode) the Child-lock LED is permanently lit, regardless how many times or for how long you press it.
Additionally, every press of either cabin doorlock/childlock buttons results in audible latching noises (and all doors remaining deadlocked).

I am just exploring the possibility with colleagues of an easier way of getting vector graphics to display in posts, that would make it easier for me to put up a wiring diagram Mike. Bear with me...

Do we need to send out a search party, Marc? :?:

I've since found these very same symptoms have affected a fair few of these C3 models.
BSI repair/replacement is the fix.

Does this mean that you don't need to try to get the doors open first? You could just send the BSI away and unlocking would be as normal when refitted?

Assuming the underlying cause of failure has been removed, yes.
But for my own education purposes, I'm going to continue the diagnosis to confirm the BSI is faulty.

Mike's looking at it now - I've sent a few files for testing, but have been buried in other things for the last few days, so just surfacing for air.

Ok, back out from the undergrowth and this is a short term solution until Mike can look at being able to attach them in the normal way. The image is large, but has to be to see the detail at present, so you can't click on it to zoom it any more. I think the detail is good enough though and you should still be able to zoom via your browser / tablet / PC anyway as normal.

So here's the Central locking diagram in its entirety: I've put a few of the main components into a table.

The supposition is one (or more?) of those BSI relays isn't sending the required unlock signal(s).
To test this, I should be able to lock/unlock all four doors by applying a pulse of battery voltage (according to polarity) down Pins 13 & 15.
Once confirmed, I can look at getting the BSI fixed.

But the K Line protocol message would need to be sent in binary format and transmitted as a pulsed voltage signal. The voltages on the K-Line are pulsed between two values in binary code. So wouldn't you just be sending gibberish? Especially as the K line may send the message in several parts, whereas a CAN protocol usually sends the message in one block.

Bad terminology on my part, Marc. I mean signal as in a short burst (lest I burn the motors out) with BSI isolated.
The motors aren't K-linguistic (more's the pity as they could have flagged a diagnostic fault!). As long as they get power, they should turn.

I've not been well enough to revisit this car until today.
Following the BSI fault theory, I've removed the BSI, split the box and seperated the two boards.

Here they are side by side

And this is the board we're interested in, the power/relay board
IMG_20180818_221609.jpg
Seperating the boards gives me access to test suspect components - in this case, the relays (as shown in the wiring diagram from Marc)

And we have a winner. In the last photo, top right, relay marked YH119 has an open circuit on the solenoid coil.

Anyone got any duff BSI's with these relays on I could have?
