I've acquired a Diagbox interface and software and I've found a single fault with my VTS. It says 'F993 Engine Fuse Box: Lights Dimmer Fault'
Could that be the cause of my lightning problem?
Can anyone shed some light regarding that fault(pun not intended :D)?
Thanks
Ok, so the fault you have F993 is Front lights shutter control fault: Not characterised
This is basically the message relayed from the engine fuse box. It is saying there is a fault in the front Xenon lights that controls the shutters - The shutter inside the Xenon projector lens raises or lowers to allow the full beam of the light through for Main Beam, or for Dipped Beam.

The engine fusebox Module 2 supplies the power to these systems and communicates with the BSI. In the table below, you will see Connector PF that shows the pins which carry the signals to the components in the large table:

So I would check the pin connections for 7 for the electrical earth, 9 & 10 for the Concealer/ shutter function, then 25-28 for the Main / Dipped operation. Always disconnect the battery first and also be aware that Xenons can retain capacitive current after the battery is disconnected. Follow the BSI procedure when reconnecting the battery.

Check the pins are not loose, are making good contact and use a little electrical cleaner (not WD 40). Make sure the connector is securely replaced afterwards and see if that makes any difference after you have performed the BSI reset. If not, you may need to replace the engine fusebox as they can't be repaired unfortunately.

Thanks, so it has nothing to do with the interior light? Shame, I hoped it would help me fix it.
Regarding the shutter, shutter on left headlight(it would be passenger's headlight in UK) doesn't always work. Once in every two months it doesn't raise the blind to activate main beam.
Not a big problem for me, and I've tested it with another headlight and it works so it's headlight related.

Thanks for your help, Marc :)

No problems - I have a similar system on my X7. If the shutter mechanism was not responding at the headlamp unit it would probably still record the same fault in the Fuse Box Module being reported. So looks like the unit has seized internally or there is a contact problem in the headlamp possibly. :)

Definitely not seized since there's some kind of a button inside the headlamp next to the xenon bulb which can be pressed and it operates the shutter manually. Probably to lower it if it stays open.
I guess there's a problem with solenoid, but I don't care, to be honest. It works in 95% of situations and that's good enough for me. It would be nice if it was sorted, but it's too much work for a problem that occurs so rarely :)

Ok, it wouldn't pass the MOT over here in that condition - it would fail, so fingers crossed - I just hope it doesn't cause dazzle - but I suspect it will likely prevent main beam from operating on that lamp (being in the lowered position) more likely than allowing main beam on continuously.

Also it is luck that on your model, like my old MK II C5, there is a normal supplementary main beam light next to the Xenon, so you have htat as a backup. On the X7 of course with Xenons, they removed that so it is the Xenons or nothing!

Exactly, I've still hot H1 main beam :)
It passed MOT because it worked on the test, it genuinely rarely happens that it doesn't flick the shutter.
I've seen many cars with one of the projectors permanently on main beam, and it really is iritating. But every day I park in my garage so I'd see if beam pattern was wrong. And also I rarely drive the VTS at night so my lights are usually off :D
