Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
Always important to use the recommended oil as it contains additives designed for the specific transmission. Using the wrong type of oil can seriously shorten the life of a transmission. Other symptoms of incorrect oil use can include:
Stalling after changing gears
Clunking noises
Rough shifting
Some gears that won’t shift
The Clutch locking up
Gears that slip
As with the AM6 you can never get all the oil out in one change - so if the incorrect oil has been used - limit miles driven until you can perform several flushes over a few months to get it all out as best you can.

Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
Thanks Simon and Marc,
I've mentioned it in this thread before but I put my car into a highy regarded Auto Box specialist earlier this year to replace the fluid (well, as much as poss).
Unbeknown to me, they used Mobil/Esso LT 71141 and claimed that they'd used this without problems in these boxes many tmes.
When I subsequently experienced a shuddering I investigated at length (including dealing directly with Aisin themselves) with the result that I insisted the autobox specialists replace the fluid with genuine Aisin recommended fluid.
I now have a rumbling noise that may well be coming from the autobox and I've noticed that the N/S triaxe has what seems to be a little excessive movement. My worry is that the LT 71141 may have caused a problem- Viz: "Any addition of oil other than the Citroen special oil will cause the destruction of the gearbox."
I have searched on the Forum and found much useful information but can anybody point me to any specific cases where damage has occurred, as I have an unpleasant feeling that this could end up in the small claims court and I'd appreciate as much supporting information as possble.
My next action will be to drain some of the fluid to see if I have any metal particles or debris.
Help please !

Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
So always better to check with the VIN.
This is the problem with generic threads and lots of posters with different vehicles and specifications with the AM6 gearboxes. I've already covered this multiple times in other posts - in that the AM6 was produced in different variations depending on vehicle and build year / Euro specifications. The boxes have different part numbers to reflect this, so it is not one size fits all. It's always better to ask for your individual vehicle using the VIN for avoidance of doubt.CAUTION: The oil type "AW-1" in AT6 and AM6 gearboxes with engine version Euro 5 is specific and cannot be replaced with oil type ""JWS 3309"".
Dry gearbox oil capacity: 7 litres (approx.).
Type of oil (Red):
EURO 5 engine: AW-1 oil
EURO 4 engine: JWS 3309 ESSO oil
I just wanted to make you both aware of this fact, but I will only provide official recommendations on things like this given the high risk.

Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
On the question of the wrong oil destroying the transmission, it is more likely to be an issue of accelerated wear or poor performance.
The vast majority of automatic transmissions are designed to have some slip at the friction surfaces, sometimes just during changes, and sometimes during normal driving. If a fluid with the wrong friction coefficient is used, the amount of slip achieved will be wrong, and may cause overheating or rapid wear of the clutches or bands, or just snatchy, juddery changes.
If refilling with the correct fluid restores normal performance, count yourself lucky.

Absolutely agree - the less miles driven with the wrong fluid, the more chance your box doesn't go to an early grave.

Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
According to service citroen , for vin number 76669464 (my AM6 equipped vehicle) i require the use of citroen part number :
9980 D4 JWS3309 2 litres. Which is where my entire comment is from after also learning from other threads on here not to use Total Fluide as its the entirely wrong stuff.

Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
Yes Simon - your vehicle does require JWS 3309 - but 'JML' has an entirely different vehicle! That is my point.
You have a Euro 4 AM6 on a MK II C5
JML has a Euro 5 AM6 on a C8 Vehicle is a mixture of Euro 4 and Euro 5 specifications for each system and now with VIN confirmed is Euro 4 for the Engine, so JWS 3309 (part number 9730AF) is the correct oil.
Both are different versions of the AM6.
Euro 4 has different oil to Euro 5.
I hope this clarifies why it is important to confirm the correct oil and specification via the VIN.

And neither of them use LT 71141

Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
Just seen this but only on my phone.
My C8 is only Euro 4 - I hope I’ve still got the right fluid !
But I still wonder whether LT 71141 fluid could have caused my box noises ?

Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
Ok, so thanks for confirming your VIN Julian.
You have one of these vehicles on the cusp of the changes, so some systems are Euro 4 and some are Euro 5 - just to make things as clear as mud!
In your case I have now confirmed with your VIN that Your engine part is Euro 4 - so JWS 3309 is the correct oil. We got there in the end, so don't panic.
Note: Anyone browsing this thread in future, wanting to know which oil they need for their AM6 should post up their query here, along with their VIN to save time.

Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
Thanks a million Marc.
I think mine is the very first 173 twin turbo C8 in the UK !
I’m still very apprehensive about my car’s time with the wrong fluid in the box, heightened by the fact that I’ve now I’ve got a mysterious noise !
Cheers
Julian

Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
Hi,
Does anyone know if the spec PR 9980.D4 is the same as JWS3324 or JWS 3309?
I'm having a difficult time find oil in australia that has the 9980.D4 spec. All i can find is SWAG oil that is $30 a litre!
Thanks!
VIN: VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

9980D4 was an older part number. That has been superseded by 9730AF for the official JWS 3309. Your vehicle is a Euro 4 specification so typically takes JWS 3309 or equivalent..
