The literal Rolls-Royce of EVs is recalled over fire risk
37 comment bubble on white
$423K luxury motor makes the Spirit of Ecstasy want to fly away

Mere months after launch, Rolls-Royce's Spectre EV is being recalled due to a faulty ground connection cable that could make the vehicle very hot stuff.

The Spectre is the British marque's first electric vehicle, and the ultra-luxury automaker looks to have hit a problem common to any manufacturer looking to enter a new field. Despite the fact the car costs more than many houses – it starts around $422,750 – some simple components aren't up to par.

"The ground connection cable between the front electric motor and the vehicle chassis may contain adhesive residue on the cable connector eyelet at the end of the cable which attaches to the electric motor," Rolls-Royce told the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in its recall notice. "This could lead to an increase in electrical resistance at this location and cause an insufficient ground connection."

According to the recall filing with the NHTSA, the issue affects Spectre vehicles manufactured between late October and early December 2023, at the assembly plant outside of Chichester in the UK.

Went out last couple of days looking and test driving a few EV's to look at replacing the C5 as it's getting on a bit.
Well cars I drove were, Peugeot e-2008 GT, Peugeot e-2008 First Edition, Hyundai Kona, and just for fun an MG4!
Two Peugeots, great cars, couldn't get the driving position right in the GT, but almost did in the 1st Edition. Ride was fairly good, acceptable, didn't like the dark windscreen pillars but other than that okay.
Kona has a really lovely interior, I got comfortable but wife found it difficult in the passenger seat, apart from the fact that you felt every pot hole and road imperfection the drive was good.
MG4 - not much to say really other than you get what you expect for the price, was away from showroom for more than 5 minutes - did NOT like it.
However, I then drove home, as soon as I got back into my C5 I thought ah!, why should I swap this for anything less comfortable? Ownership of the C5 continues....... until it let's me down…

Tempting Mick, I like the plum coloured one but for insurance write offs they're both suspect and in my opinion overpriced. :o

A blatant piece of IP theft here. I have no scruples when it comes to trying to help :-D Neil discovered this on the
Spotted Xantias thread but I thought it worthy of a duplication here:
