A1 Car Spares, on the outskirts of Reading. Why not give them a call? It looks like a heavy front end impact.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
If you did happen to be looking for parts for a polestar 2, I wonder other than pure fortune of accidentally coming across it how you could easily find it. I half remember Simon using some sort of "parts finder" which turned up the Leaf "transfer drive" from a scrapyard.
A1's website doesn't offer any detailed cataloguing of cars they have, so looks like it would be pot luck with a good old fashioned telephone call
I expect that they would be part of some network so that if someone was looking for what must be quite a rarity, used parts for a Polestar 2, their scrapyard would pop up on a "parts finder" enquiry.
Regards Neil

Only one today, an Ionic electronic.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Did you have a chat with the driver Steve?
People in general like to talk about their electric cars, many are very enthusiastic. Something like "How do you like your electric car" usually is a good opener...
Didn't motor far today seeing as most of the roads were blocked by fallen trees in any case and likely that more were to follow. Did see one Jaguar I-pace in Black with the Green Flash on its 71 Plate.

No. The only one I have spoken to was the Tesla driver in Birtley, about six months ago.

e 208
One BMW i3
One Mercedes EQA 250
One Hyundai IoniQ
and
One Blue Jaguar I-Pace
Down to fumes on range after finding that the Ionity Chargers just off the A1 at Alnwick were not working. I asked her if the car told her where the nearest chargepoints were as less than 200 metres away were 2 ever reliable Osprey Rapid Chargers outside M&S, and 2 more nearby one at the Leisure Centre and one at the Carpark in town.
Maybe these very expensive cars aren't as clever as they are cracked up to be, or maybe the owners just aren't switched on, or less likely none of the occupants of the car had smart phones to bring up Zap Map.
Charging in Northumberland is very good if not very visible, but I could imagine a microphone shoved in front of the Jag driver might produce "The Charging Network in Northumberland is a nightmare" soundbyte. They had driven past at least half a dozen accessible rapid chargers between Berwick and Northumberlandia, all of which are on Zap Map.
Self inflicted range anxiety

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Another Taycan spot 71reg in Black. No pic. Porsche still faffing about with synthetic fuel in Chile to keep their heritage of gas guzzlers on the road, and a few race cars whizzing around the track, but the Taycan has been a bit of a success for Porsche in spite of its price tag. Bit different from the more ubiquitous Tesla and a badge which has carried a bit of kudos for those with the wherewithall to afford one.

PS plenty on the road spots the green flashes are getting more frequent, another of the FCF's top 71 reg September spots winner Skoda, a Skoda EnyaQ 71 Plate in Blue.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Ran into one of the MK Community Transport electric Movanos again today - or very nearly did actually run into it!
Doing a steady 29mph along a fast dual carriageway section of the A5 while I was merging in behind it in relatively busy traffic. I was expecting it to be traveling slower than the general flow of traffic based on prior experience - but I wasn't quite expecting a sub-30mph rolling roadblock.
Saying I nearly ran into it is a vast overstatement, but it did result in a bit of an ugly merge in, while I then had to wait behind it for at least a couple of minutes until someone would let me out to overtake. That was heading slightly downhill at the time too...goodness only knows what they did half a mile later when they got to a hill! I can see plenty of scope for other drivers encountering something that looks just like any other modern van doing that sort of speeds on a fast road like the A5 getting ugly. Never mind how impatient other road users will get if they wind up behind it on a stretch that's NOT dual carriageway and the inevitable stupidity that that opens the situation up to...
Given they always seem to be going painfully slowly when I see them I do wonder if that's just a limitation of how they have been set up, or are they having to always go really gently because of range issues? Just really does feel after today's encounter that they seem to be approaching the "dangerously slow" category whatever the cause.

I can appreciate the potential hazard there Zel, it maybe an idea for the rest of the motoring public to 'pigeon hole' them along with milk floats. At least that way it may alter the inherent frustration felt when you come across one. j

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
I suppose the driver must have been either trying to stretch out the range or just in 'amble' mood, the Movano electric van has a top speed of just short of 70 mph.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑08 Feb 2022, 09:02 I can appreciate the potential hazard there Zel, it maybe an idea for the rest of the motoring public to 'pigeon hole' them along with milk floats. Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Yes I'm sure you are right Gibbo, the problem is more than likely down to the fact that the van was carrying an almost full payload, if not overloaded, and the range is consequently reduced significantly if too much throttle is applied. If memory serves me correctly the MMF in an electric motor is affected by both load and current feed. If you increase the load you have to increase the current to achieve the same MMF (more oftenly, though not accurately, referred to as torque) Thus the more load you carry the more current you need to maintain the same speed and hence the reduction in range as the battery has a finite supply!

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Let's not forget that about 85% of the distributor roads in MK are 70mph dual carriageways with a roundabout every 0.9 miles...not great for an EV that weighs as much as that, even though you will at least get some of that energy back through regen. Bumbling around a conventional city in stop/start traffic at 20/30/40 I'm sure they'd be great, but just doesn't seem to be the right vehicle for the job here.
Especially as this is MK Council, so you can absolutely bet they cheaped out and went for the smaller battery version which only has a claimed range of 72 miles to start with...
Wonder if I should write to the council suggesting they fit an amber rotating beacon to the roof of them.
