I believe there may be an - as yet - unidentified law of physics that refers specifically to sheds. In the same way that Parkinson's Law states that "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion", I believe there's a constant that defines how "items of latent usefulness expand to fill the shed space available".

I'm with you on that one bobins although the law as applied to my ex-wife for drawers and cupboards was very slightly different - "Any space within the domain will hold a volume of things equal to its own volume +1" and thus all our drawer bottoms and cupboard backs used to get pushed out!! :-D

That rule applies to otherwise unused bedrooms too, as I can confirm.

Unfortunately, Mrs Bobins has a conjecture that runs alongside the above law. It goes something like this: "Why can't items of latent usefulness go in the bin ?" :(

Why not indeed. I often ask myself that.
No answer yet, which is why the collection continues to expand.

Whilst i am in the mood i also want to add loft storage space contents into my 101 room, seriously why do i allow it to happen, we have 1 son, he is in his mid 20's why do we need to have his baby bath etc etc up there, could probably supply a university with old vacuum cleaners to help them understand why the hose has split ( various makes and models ) and why oh blinkin why do i have 3 (yes 3) artificial Xmas trees in boxes that will never ever be used again as by default they have been up there for a combination of 9+ years and the new one from the year before last will join the other 3 this year, i just feel it in my bones #-o #-o

I accept that i do have a single o/s wing from a MK1 Xantia up there, rust free and ok yes been there for maybe 15 years but it needs to be kept dry, and as my shed is now in 101 i could not store it there. :rofl2:

Candles. I was chatting with a young mother, she was complaining bitterly about traffic pollution and her child's asthma, I noticed in her shopping trolley she had half a dozen scented candles, I asked if she used them regularly, "Yes my kids love them, especially at bath time."

Now I remember when we were kids in the air raid shelter we used to write messages on the roof with the sooty smoke from the candles.

I suggested it would be good for the kid's health if she popped them back on the supermarket shelf..............but she didn't.

That 's typical of people only being spoon-fed things they are told they should be worried about (vehicle emissions in this case) and not all the other stuff that's going on right inside her home!

We dumped scented candles back in the dark ages and use stone burners for ethanol based essential oils - so no black smoke.

Even they are a nightmare. They had one in the HiFi shop I use last time I went there, had to bring the boss out into the street and buy a turntable from him.

:rofl2:

Ours is one where once it is hot enough, you blow the flame out and the oil seeps up the wick onto the stone and evaporates or diffuses or does whatever it does, We only leave it on for 20 minutes then it gets capped. It's very strong - and should be for the price of the oil at £25 a litre!

It's the evaporating oil that is the problem Marc, not the actual flame/burner. Five seconds in the shop was enough to stop be being able to talk for over half an hour. Any longer and it would have needed paramedics or an ambulance. That has happened a few times and I am very cautious now. Last time was meeting Mick for the High Force trip.
