Point taken --- I should have done it in the beginning as mentioned.
It's in such an awkward position I thought a click tighter was easier than trying to get the thing out ----
Thanks again .

Again, not saying this will definitely cure it - but it did in our case - very occasional hesitation - seemed to happen more going uphill on the C3 (a clue there). There were a few here that found it hard to believe the brake switch could be responsible - but BX has a good explanation on the thread I made on this here:

Back to the drawing board !!
Yesterday during gusty weather going along at 45 - 50 mph I drove past a gate and was hit by a side gust of wind which instantly brought up the engine management light ----- I kept the throttle in the same position ( if I take my foot off it goes into limp mode) and kept on going .
Coincidence about the wind gust ? I don't know....
All afternoon the light was on after 2 park ups but on the 3rd start the light went out ---- same error now cleared again.
No amount of driving over bumps ,swinging the steering from one side to another and rocking the car can I make the problem appear ..... Ah well

Still trying to get to the bottom of this --- yesterday on the M4 I overtook a lorry and just as we appeared in front of it and in "clear air" the light came on just like passing that gate way and being hit by a gust .
Light remained on through several stop /starts in the Swansea area --- light finally went out after 2 stop /starts at home this morning .
Same error cleared by code resetter.
Does anyone know if disconnecting the battery overnight will cause problems when reconnected, with radio (original) needing a code or anything else please?
The car doesn't have key fob remote locking --- I have to lock/open it by putting the key in the door.
The ignition key is different from the door key --- maybe changed at some stage being an old car.
Most annoying to say the least ...
Thanks
Regards

Last followup --- hopefully !
This car has never had much guts in it when going up hill .
I've been back and for to Morriston from North Pembrokeshire with 3 people in the car for the last 3 weeks --- there are a lot of hills and for a 2 litre car it was so slow getting up them having to end up in 2nd gear for some -- no smoke out of the exhaust or anything odd -- just no grunt.
This "wind gust" thing got me thinking, was it something to do with air intake so today unplugged the MAF sensor plug --- good grief what a different car !!
Now flew up hills where normally 3rd or 2nd gear --- even accelerating .
Interesting no engine management light came on .
Not happy to use the car like this I bought an original -- not cheap copy-- MAF sensor unit .
Easy to fit and what a difference the car is now.
Driving with the windows down today there is now a whistle -- turbo -- which I'm certain I haven't noticed before, when putting my foot down, so it sounds like the turbo is actually doing something it didn't do before.
Anyway back to crossing fingers --- maybe this will help others --- if you have a sluggish 2.0hdi try unplugging the MAF sensor .

Thanks again for the help
Kev.

Well, it's been over 2 weeks since changing the MAF sensor unit and it's a different car to drive -- hate to say this but even a pleasure !!
No more struggling to get up hills and no sign of the engine management light.
Next test is to bung my boat behind it when (if) the weather warms up !
Thanks all .

Well, not wishing to tempt fate, but it's been nearly a year since I last saw the engine management light during driving !!
The car tows like a dream with the boat on the back -- goes up hills at the speed I want it to, not at the speed it wanted to.
Role on the warmer weather again ..
Have a good summer.

Hello again -- long time no see !
Well it's over 2 years now and no repeat of the fault so can safely say changing the MAF cured the problem in this case.
Hope this has helped others with fault codes that don't point to the fault .
