Quite easy with Xenon lights easier access. Ditto X7 with Xenons except DRLS (that's another story).

Have to agree. First time I picked the X7 up from dealer and sat inside I had a "wow" moment or 5! It just felt so tight and enclosed compared to the facelift model I drove up in. The bonnet was longer and I can only describe it as driving a mini and then getting into a Ford Capri! It took a while to adjust everything and felt too weird driving off. Completely different ride too. Had to stop 5 minutes later to familiarise self again with it as so different! I love the car now I'm used to it.

I seriously considered an auto, as was really concerned about DMF and clutch with previous experience as I'm not lazy on the clutch, but couldn't find the spec. I wanted otherwise I would have gone the auto route. All I can say re towing is that when I picked her up it had a tow bar on and they asked if I wanted it taken off, which they did and put it in the boot. But as the DMF went 20k later with the clutch, I now wonder how much the towing by the previous owner contributed to the wear. So new clutch and badly worn DMF changed at 40k.

I drove the Peugeot 5008 once and I didn't realise it's the 1.6 HDI until I opened the bonnet...with 4 adults and a kid plus a full boot of stuff it pulled with absolute ease. The car had an Aisin 6AT

Not sure about the number of valves but given it's a newish car with only 6000km on the clock this August when I rented it in Norway, I guess that'd be a 115hp 8V engine. It felt far more quicker than my xsara picasso 2.0hdi 90, and not much different than the new C4 grand picasso 2.0hdi Manual. At 130kph on Danish motorway it still pulled strong. I was totally convinced that the 1.6hdi is capable enough for a family car/MPV like 5008.

Yes, that went on my facelift exclusive. The key fob had the Headlight 'guide me home' button instead of the window button that was on my Mk1. This was carried over to the X7. They also lost the auto closing of the windows and roof when it rains. I guess there were too many limbs lying about on the roads as a result of anti-pinch failures caused by BSI resets not being done!

They removed the butting because you use the lock and unlock button to do it instead :)

Went and looked at a facelift today.

Nice car. Very nice, liked it a lot. It definitely does not have the open windows feature :mecker:
Tried all the buttons and no joy, so even resorted to reading the owners manual to find out  and it's definitely not mentioned - all you can do is put the windows up when locking :( It was a VTR, if that makes any difference?

Couple of questions;
1. There was an oil leak from somewhere at the back of the engine. Not dripping or anything big, but something that's been there for a while and slowly covered the subframe etc. Couldn't see where it was from, because I wasn't going to get all the way under the front of the car without jacking it up (which I couldn't do). Anywhere common on the 2.0 16v HDi that leaks at the back?

2. Handbrake. It had been mentioned on all the recent MOT's as being poor (I looked up online before going to see the car) and on checking it, it was indeed s**t. It would hold the car stationary, but yanking it on while driving along barely did anything to slow you down. I could also pull away with it on, just on idle. Pads aren't old and the discs have loads of meat on them. The lever came up the same amount as on my current C5, but was stiff. What's the score with these?

3. Gearshift was stiff. Normal on this box (6 speed manual) or a sign of knackered cables? Or something else?

4. Clutch was total opposite of mine - sharp and close to the floor rather than progressive and close to the top of travel. Normal on this box?

5. On hard acceleration, in second, there was a momentary flat spot as it came up to 3k. Barely noticeable and then back on song. Normal?

6. All the climate control worked, but there was permanent fault logged on the passenger humidity sensor. Difficult job to change?

Only other things of note on interrogating the ECU - couple of egr faults (not uncommon I believe?) and permanent steering angle sensor fault (which on checking the parameter live, did indicate a problem at one point - generally smooth all round but would suddenly jump from -127 to +45). Difficult job to change?

Other than that, just the usual pre-heat relay circuit and drivers door mirror de-icing faults.

Sounds like new handbrake and gear cables could be something to do in the future as if moisture gets into them they just slowly move grease out and over time the best from the engine helps dry them out as well.
It's a hydraulic clutch so as long as it's not slipping on full boost in the higher gears it may just need he circuit bleeding properly.

Windows I can only speak from Exclusive trim levels but holding the lock or unlock button would move the windows up or down until you released the button.

Oil leak could be a rocker gasket but if it's not leaking or dripping when parked if not worry too much as the side affect is that rot is less likely to have the subframe or bits in the oils path and it helps keep nuts and bolts in a state easier to get off when you need to :)

The clutch on my 07 reg 2.0 hdi 16v was smooth and the bite was quite high. It had over 110k miles on it and I think it was the original one. The gear change was a bit stiff on mine. The handbrake being crap I would put down to cables seizing up as KP says. I would think it needs new cables and guides. Not expensive but a bit of a pain to change. When my one got interrogated by cmorewoods lexis it had permanent steering angle sensor fault also and not much else. If you look at one with climate control ensure it all works as the flaps are prone to sticking resulting, in the case of my one, no heat at all on the driver's side.

I have read this with interest as I'm of buying C5 S2 model 2010 plate.

My understanding the early 1.6HDi have there problems but what about the newer models circa 2010 plate.

I am swaying towards the 2.0 HDi 160 hp excluisve estate.

Further opinions sought and suggestions.
