this completes the service, well except for the autobox oil, I job I fear for some reason.. I still don't know what oil I need will have to look back through other posts..
the rubber was fractured, but it didn't really need replacing.. easy job to change though. £30 for the part

That’s good! have you noticed a difference at all?
Re the auto box oil, Type AW-1 for the euro 5 X7 and JWS3309 for the euro 4's
I've actually got 6 litres of JWS3309 waiting for me to change the oil (again) over Christmas

Re: C5 (X7) - Front lower suspension arm replacement.
Afternoon all!
been a while..
Car just went for mot test, a fail on a broken cv gaiter band (I don't have the tool for this) and advisories for both upper front suspension arm bushes (i.e. 4, 2 each side)
he did say the nearside was quite bad, so I want to sort that first..
having had a quick look, the bolts that hold the upper arm to the chassis are extracted outwards i.e. away from the arm (if that makes sense) - and they look like they will foul the inner wheel arch. Am I right in thinking that the top strut mounts need to be undone/removed - to get these bolts to come out (and the upper arm to be replaced?
with spheres and so on, how much work will be needed to lower the strut enough i wonder?
thanks
John
just had a thought.. will my pipe clamp pliers also do a cv boot clamp? they are used for cooling pipes etc
