Re: Picture(s) of the day....
New seedlings at dawn always fall prey to birds in our part of the world. Everything we plant now begins life under an upturned plastic crate which gives them a chance of getting established before the beasts can get at them!
Slugs and snails are kept at bay with the copper tape around the crate edge on the ground, works for us!

Used copper tape to keep them out of the bins.
They do climb the wall and onto the ladders where the seedlings are raised but only attack randomly and slime is the indicator.
Lots of pigeons, magpies and crows around here, more since avian 'flu drastically reduced the numbers of raptors.
there is a young starling spending a lot of time in the garden recently but seems to be feasting on the millions of ants.
Rubbish photo as I didn't get up from the computer. The thrush is off like a shot if I move.

Not really a picture of the day but somewhere to broadcast this astounding collection of Photographic Equipment coming up for auction. The first few pages of the catalogue are other scientific equipment but it's photo stuff from mid page 5 onwards!!

Either her husband really loves driving his M 3 or the tattoo artist seriously messed it up.

I think you're missing a trick - I think you should cover the seedlings in a hi-vis vest as they're supposed to offer great levels of protection from all sorts of threats.
Sadly no longer a C5 owner

Son. Narrow country lane and a lorry approaching from the opposite direction. Lorry moved over as far as it could but there was a wall there, Bob drove onto the verge and there must have been a branch or something similar that ripped the liner and sill cover off.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
There is a lot of that sticking out stuff in the lanes and even on the main roads around here since the council used the excuse of' giving wildlife a chance' and not doing the usual annual trimming back of the hedges.
I had to polish out scratches on the Zoe for the same reason.
Really probably nothing to do with wildlife more a case of saving money to spend on their other inane schemes.

Similar here allegedly to promote bees. They leave selected areas. As all the weeds die off, the schoolkids set fire to them.

When it comes to councils, nothing is ever as it seemsA walker who emailed a council to thank them for rewilding a disused golf course was left disappointed after the authority said the grass had not been cut due to a broken lawnmower.
Steve Walters said there was a "touch of" mowing at Western Golf Course in Leicester in the winter and "then nothing", which he thought was "great".
He said butterflies, badgers, and birds had since been attracted to the area.
The city council said it had a "duty to maintain" it and had now cut the grass.
Mr Walters has walked the course every day for the past 26 years, and has long campaigned for it to be kept as a wildlife haven.
But Leicester City Council's response, seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, read: "Sorry to disappoint you, but there have been no changes to our mowing policy, our mower has broken down and we have had difficulty in sourcing parts."

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I'm getting a bit worried about fire here, everything is bone dry, even the stinging nettles are dying. We have a forest at the top of the garden, if that goes up so will our hedges and probably the house. Nice to have the sun though and the good news is we still have plenty of water in our well, not enough to put the house out though.
