We don't use many of ours but we have a large stock of apple sauce! The badgers and maybe foxes eat a lot that fall on the ground, maybe deer too.

That tree was a cider apple that was part of the hedge when we moved here, I grafted some Bramly bits on to it about 40 years ago and its now about 20' high and 20' across. It seems to be he only fruit tree that grows successfully here, I've put in a couple of Victoria plum trees in, one I have just cut down because its produced nothing for many years, although it did produce a small trailer full of logs.

The other Victoria I planted about 3 or 4 years ago, it grew about 4' a year! Lat year it got silverleaf and died. I also planted a cherry tree - the birds are delighted.

When we lived in Kent the fruit was superb.

We have a plum tree in our garden which feeds the wildlife and leaves us with leaves:
The leafy plum
The leafy plum
but we also have some more interesting subjects for the arboreal enthusiast:
The leafy mystery
The leafy mystery
The limey lump
The limey lump
Identifying the middle picture proved a challenge. When I moved in SWMBO did not know what it was and I delved into it as you might expect! Identifying the tree family was not too tricky but nailing down the actual species proved a far bigger challenge. I sent in photos, leaf samples and bark samples to Kew Gardens but they were not able to specify the actual species unless we were prepared to send in monthly samples and pay for the analysis. We weren't that bothered, settling for the family from which it comes. Any suggestions would be most appreciated? :-D

I chopped a bit out of the photo of your "mystery" tree and the top answer from identify plantnet on a western europe search was

https://identify.plantnet.org/species/w ... %20Swingle

Of the other answers the American Black Walnut came up.

When I carried out my research we came to the conclusion that it was from the Walnut family which Kew concurred, but they couldn't tie it down any further than that!! :)

You might want to ask them that, should it be a previously unknown strain, could they name it after yourself (or SWMBO)? That might make it worth considering getting it identified! :D

Well done Marc, I've just put you on 2003 for an old post of yours in the spoiler for top quality advice and assistance on a daily basis on the FCF. Hopefully it may make sense of this tribute to other viewers! Just a little quote in your own words from the post in the spoiler which reflects your commitment....
....I trapsed out tonight in the freezing wet and windy weather, barefoot and in loin cloth to get these pics.

Blimey that was a while ago now - but happy to report that said lights are still fully functional with no problems, unlike loin cloth! :-D

I hadn't noticed my like count has now surpassed its second millennium either until you mentioned it, nor that this will be my 20348th post  I really must get a life. :-D

Lovely day for it, Mick. :-D I was pretty sure it was you that flew overhead whilst I was at work today - I did wave at you, but you didn't wave back :(
A friend took me up in one of those flying caravans a few years ago. I'm not a large chap, but I'm tall enough, and with the passenger seat right back I either had the choice of my knees fouling the steering wheel thingy or my feet touching the pedals. I had an enjoyable, if somewhat uncomfortable flight though :)
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

Sorry about that bobins, I was probably tied up with my co-pilot duties at the time and missed your wave, so to make up for it:
