Now there were a lot of these flitting around, more in a heathland setting, i suspect its a moth but a colourful little thing....any ideas?

I think that's a Skipper butterfly, probably a Large Skipper. Ochlodes sylvanus.

For a little diversion, it's worth looking at some moths and their markings - equally as beautiful, if not better than a lot of butterflies. They've also got some fantastic common names that wouldn't be out of place on some beer taps. A pint of Ruby Tiger ? Perhaps a Crimson Speckled. Or maybe a swift half of Nettle-tap before you go home :)

Yes that looks like it. There was also quite a few beautiful blue butterflies probably the "Common blue tease" because just as I had the camera lined up they would fly off, and flutter about appearing as if they were going to settle on a nearby flower but then flitting off at least 10 metres away, and by the time you just got to their next position they were off again. Didnt manage to click a single shutter on them :-D

Now this may be a moth which could inspire the name of a pint! Although I think it might be a six spot burnet moth perhaps!

This evening's drink - (nearly) a pint of falling-over-water. Mrs Bobins had to go to Waitrose to get it though :shock: All credit to Waitrose though, they do have a good beer selection - I have a bottle of Erdinger Pikantus lined up for tomorrow :-D

As well as enjoying a Skinners Sennen anda Cornish Knocker down in Lamorna in Cornwall I've also had a bottle of Boon Doggle from Ringwood Brewery from my "golden selection".

Digging around in the ground when I was eight or nine years old,I unearthed an interesting chrysalis, must have just formed as it still wiggled a bit. Quite unusual as it was a purple-ish colour and shiny, like plastic.
Kept it at home and after a while a moth like that emerged and flew away. Never seen one like it since.

For some time my friends in Elstree have been looking for the leak in their self-contained pondish water feature. :-D

They do like fresh water. One of ours this morning looked at his water bowl then looked at me and stood up with his paws on the sink - he wanted clean water, I refilled his bowl and he had a good drink.

One of the others likes to jump into the bathroom wash basin and drink from the tap. They have water by their food but that's not good enough.

I've got a big productive cherry tree but the birds usually steal the cherries before I get to them.

The trouble is the birds take them before they are really ripe, we have the same problem. Don't have much success with fruit down here - except apples, we have a huge Bramley tree which was from a graft I put on a wild cider apple tree in the hedge about 40 years ago and that is loaded.

When we lived in Kent had no problem with any sort of fruit, conditions don't seem right here, we are 500' asl which may have something to do with it.

Well I searched and searched from series 11000 diggers, through Suzuki Hyabusa maxing out at 11000 rpm to trains and boats and planes to find a suitable celebratory picture for Neil's 11000 posts. I even started counting fence posts in Australia and I did find a jar of beads here but in the end you just can't beat a decent firework celebration, so here it is:

Thanks Mick much appreciated, its amazing how quick 1000 posts can rack up when there is a decent bit of forum interaction, and thumbs up to yourself and others for your own contributions which keep the forum flowing. As always I would encourage viewers to become regular posters, and if there is something to join in with join in.

I know this is not a picture, and not even a video I took, but I thought I would post it here anyway (if a Moderator wants to move it to a more suitable location I won't object). It shows the lengths an Osprey will go to to catch a fish;

To possibly give you an idea of scale a female Osprey (which can be 20% larger than the males) can have a wingspan of 1.8 metres (just short of 6')!
