Before the day is out, avid followers of the Pickled Egg Library will find deposited there an absolute gem of motoring fascinating facts 365daysofmotoring

and selecting todays date we find that on this day....
In 1938, the Toyota Motor Co. was founded. The name was changed from Toyoda to Toyota because the number of strokes to write Toyota in Japanese characters (Kanji) is eight, a lucky number in East Asian culture, while Toyoda was nine strokes.
and
In 1976, Jensen Motors Ltd (which have cropped up in FCF discussions recently) ceased trading after 42 years.
and
In 1980, reserve Lotus driver, Nigel Mansell, made his Grand Prix debut at the Osterreichring, Austria.
So what picture to select.....a yellow Jensen Interceptor is as good as any...

My comment from yesterday when the post went belly up.

The write up for the Minerva at the Brooklands auction made me chuckle.... "driving them is like riding a bull with a chilli jockstrap."
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

No problem Mick, there's always a warm welcome at the Pickled Egg. The punters make their own entertainment. Just look at them enjoying themselves!

Picture(s) of the day....junctions

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

While flicking through a recent deposit at the Pickled Egg Library I discover that today is the anniversary of the opening of the first clover-leaf junction at Watson Road and Lindbergh Boulevard near St. Louis, Missouri as part of an upgrade of US 66. The cloverleaf interchange (junction) was patented in the US by Arthur Hale, a civil engineer in Maryland in 1916.

and just look at the excitement in 1935, when Europe got its first Cloverleaf Junction.

The crowd went wild in Stockholm!

Possible but I don't remember it. Only driven to Stockholm once in a (1954) Volvo PV 444 that we cleverly filled up with diesel on the way home, smokescreens galore.
Went to see Leonard Cohen.
Every other time I went by train.

Just out of interest does anybody else have their displays set so that the latest post comes first so that previous posts are "down"? I find it easier to get to latest post that way but it can be confusing. Could we call former posts "previous" to cover both options? :?: :-D

Mine are so that the first unread post is jumped to and more recent ones down the page - default setting.
I did see Neil's photos but as I didn't drive there (Stockholm) but one time had nothing to offer.
