Daimler DB18 Consort

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

This was a lookalike I came up with DB18 too

As for those Austins and the Counties looks like your selection....here is a front end from the programme, does that confirm the A40 Devon?

I bought (well for a giveaway price) my father in laws Somerset. It was a fairly comfortable ride and conveyed my wife and I up and down to Cornwall many, many times. I don't think they liked their daughter riding on the pillion of my Velocette for 250 miles each way!! After the experience of freezing fog, constant rain and usually in the dark, the car was such a luxury; dry and warm and not almost frozen in one position. Mind you, no M5 and they were converting the A448 and A38 to a dual carriageway then. Driving at dusk of after dark with the bikes 6V lights was no joke and frequently pretty hairy. I remember I had to use the reflection of oncoming vehicle lights off the nearside curb - when there was one - to see where I was supposed to be going. No doubt I was not alone as quite a few forum members may well remember! Ah the joys of yesteryear. :rofl2:

I had a very short Motorcycle career the longest journey of which was a one-day excursion to Manchester and back from North West Durham on a Honda CD 175 to see the Cricket World Cup Semi Final between England and New Zealand, 20th June 1979. Great day out until the Pennines had to be crossed in the dark and in fog. Great relief to get on a "straight" road at last when the A1 was reached. In a car I would always cut off at Pierce bridge and head for the A68 as the shortest route home. Big mistake when you are hugely cold and tired and you rejoin the fog over the Durham Dales for about 30 never ending miles. Yes it was June, but I was frozen stiff when I eventually made it home.

A CD175 is very much a classic now Neil :) Good bikes in their day...

So, did that one ride kill off all your love for motorcycling?

Answered that question on the wrong thread initially JIm

I bought the CD175 in January of the "Winter of Discontent" when the rubbish was piled high in the streets and from January to about March it felt the snow and ice never left. Enjoyed that summer with the bike...and yes apart from the nightmare of the journey home I enjoyed that trip immensely. I had a mini 1000 at the time and I sold the bike at the end of the summer having passed my bike test on it in the July for the same price I paid for it.

From time to time afterwards I would go through a phase of wanting to get another bike, but never did, but always enjoyed a bit of a mooch around at Harry Wood's or Ken's on Westgate Road in Newcastle doing a bit of window shopping :-D

Ahh good, pleased it did not destroy your love Neil :D

I stopped motorcycling in 1991 just before disappearing off to Darwin and becoming a dad... I often thought of returning to the fold but instead went for a different sort of cycling :)

I very much doubt I'll ever ride a motorbike again but i do keep the love and interest alive :)

A lovely one today during my bike ride :-D 8-)

Apologies for the quality, grabbed from my bikecam footage...

Our closing speeds were high, hence the blurring  The Escort sounded beautiful pulling hard up the hill. I was speeding down it!
