Re: Classic for under £10K
From the records I have the bodyshell number puts it late 1958ish but the 3 piece rear window puts the shell pre jan 1958 - so the 1956 reg date is way out. UK deliveries didn't start til 1957. Glove box doors were not standard until Dec 1957 and so far I can't find any info on when or if floor change boxes were installed. Need a visit to Gaydon again.

For the benefit of our 'Old Rover' fans I thought I'd post this but it doesn't really belong on this thread I'm sure!!

Re: Classic for under £10K
Brightwells sale was due to end last night from 7pm onwards, but was suspended due to some tech problem with an amazon link, so remains open with bidding on lots progressively closing from 7pm Monday 17th onwards.
Another nice Rover but with this little extra information
Regards Neil

Its an Automatic. Shiny enough though.Driven some 80 miles to the sale this attractive, later model 2200SC is ready to be enjoyed this Spring.
**Bidders please note, car has leaked fluid since arriving on site which looks like transmission fluid**

Re: Classic for under £10K
Brightwells May Classic timed auction ended last night, and closing bids for the lots are here.
Regards Neil
I guess the reason is they are expensive to run and insure but on the evidence of the auction the Jaguar XK8 remains pretty unloved. I mean every single Fiat 500 at every single auction no matter what condition, would be disappointed with the price this convertible closed at.

Re: Classic for under £10K
A very shiny looking blue P6 2200 Auto'. P-reg, so one of the last.
Some classic owners got them into a better state of 'trim' than when they left the factory - door and panel shuts, for example. Remember, this was British Leyland by now!
The auto 'boxes were originally Borg-Warner 35 for the 4-cyl cars, iirc. Although the 'box itself was reliable and long-lived (PSA owners ask: Can this be true?), Rover's use of a mild steel 4-spoke flex plate for coupling the heavy torque converter was not good: the earlier 2000 Automatics could eat these, even after they were doubled in thickness - I went through three! Oddly, other BL automatics had a continuous (solid) plate...
The wrong fluid in the box (which was not uncommon) could produce bumpy changes, and also a worrying thud when drive or reverse was engaged, which could stress these holey plates badly.
The smoothness of the V8 (and most P6 V8's were automatic), and the later BW65, sidestepped the problem. The 2200 was inherently more torquey and harsh than the 2000, so I hope they weren't flex-plate plagued as well. My vague recollection was that they got the BW65 as well (Rover always liked standardisation, BL more so). In all my years of involvement with P6, I don't recall leaky transmissions being a problem, apart from pipework routing fluid to the integrated cooler in the radiator side-tank. All long-ago stuff, now.

Re: Classic for under £10K
Was there a reserve or did it actually go for that price?

Re: Classic for under £10K
Estimate of £4,250 to £5,250,
The particulars if there is no reserve on a lot state "no reserve". So for that lot there must be a reserve.
We will find out whether it sold for the final bid of £2,505 when the results are published both on the Brightwells Website and on Glenmarch when finalised.

Never seen the Mathewsons Calatogue so bulging as it builds for the June sale, all sorts of things.
Have a little look. Building catalogue here

I have a friend who is extremely claustrophobic, she has a habit of opening the door when I leave her in the car to pay for fuel etc. she would be out lying in the road with those suicide doors on the DKW.

Re: Classic for under £10K
I had a browse through the Mathewsons catalogue, thanks Neil, and found a couple of things of special interest, one I'll post here but you'll have to use Neil's link to find out what it is. The second I shall post on a different thread which I will leave you to find!!
