Now I didnt know Mark Knopfler's middle name until now....I did know that both his brother and him were born in Glasgow, but they moved to the North East when they were very young.
Spoiler: show
Mark Freuder Knopfler was born on 12 August 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland, to an English mother, Louisa Mary (née Laidler) (from Blyth), and a Hungarian father, Erwin Knopfler. His mother was a teacher and his father was an architect and a chess player whose anti-fascist sympathies and Jewish parentage forced him to flee from his native Hungary in 1939.

So thats almost nailed the spider and the hornet, but what about the Wolseley..........

Regards Neil
Half a point for getting the link.....
Bit of an "Only Connect degree of obscurity I fear"
So we have Eddy Grant and Electric Avenue and a link with Wolseley.
As far as I can work out-Nothing in the lyrics of the song
Electric Avenue is Brixtonish. First market street to be lit by electricity.
Wolseley had the first car badge "lit by electricity"?

Or maybe Eddy Grant is the link.....maybe Eddy Grant was a shop steward at the Wolseley works!

I'll sacrifice quarter of a point for another clue :-D

Ah....the Birmingham Electric Avenue. Never heard of it. I see that there are quite a few electric avenues across the country even one in Harrogate.

One Only Connect link coming up:
The Wolseley factory was in Birmingham along from Station Road where there is the oldest working cinema in the UK which is called The Electric. (https://www.theelectric.co.uk/)
Hence when discussed in the press someone may have written: "Down the road from the old Wolseley factory site is The Electric, a venue where you can see cinema as it used to be"!! :-D :-D

My father spent nearly all of his working life at Wolseley in Electric Avenue.
It was so called because directly opposite was the big GEC factory.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

FRom the 2017 Archives...I've invited Adam Swanson to belt out a tune on the Pickled Egg Piano.
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 05 Nov 2017, 11:56 Lovely stuff Bobins, could well have made it to the PE-Jukebox:The Piano theme, as could this.

The link is "The Piano" of course but in a very different form, from the "World Champion" old-time piano player Adam Swanson.....

The PE Landlord is contemplating giving him an audition for the Sunday lunchtime spot.

Original song by Rodgers and Hart circa 1925. Ben Selvin did one of the earliest versions.....he's also got a nice little catalogue of "Dance" numbers including the original charleston which I will include should the pickled egg punters feel inclined to dance.

This is one of the earliest recordings...(instrumental) of Manhattan

and "the Original Charleston"

go on then have "happy days are here again" as well

Inspired by the Forvie sands in POTD I remembered one of my mum's favourite tracks (I'll have to watch this, my mum seems to be coming up more and more :-D ) :
