Spot on there Neil. Not having much luck with the lighter car yet. My initial reaction was FSO Polonez but I eliminated that very quickly - nothing like it #-o , then I started looking at Mk1 Cavaliers and Chevettes for the nose but nothing matches the square rear door window. That lead me to the Austin range from Metro through to Princesses but nothing to match all parts. So still scratching. Now thinking about renault 9 or 11 maybe but not researched yet!! :)

I'll have to redirect the search a little. It appeared at the 1973 Motor Show, and it is no co-incidence it appears on the same picture as the Maxi. The go to site for all things Austin Rover and much much more is ARonline where the answer will lie.

...just a bit more....the car appeared at the 1973 motor show not on the British Leyland Stand but on the IBCAM/Daily Telegraph stand (No.9).

Spot on Mick! The ARonline has the full chapter and verse here. It was a full car and remains in the hands of an enthusiast as at the time of Keith Adams writing the article December 2018.

For the first time in nearly 11,000 posts on the French car forum, yesterday I put up the Aquila based on the Austin Maxi as a Whatsthisthen?

Today never having bought or received a copy of Private Eye, but receving one as a present today I open the cover and find this full page advert on page 3.

Fascinating story to that car which I believe eventually matured into the Rover SD1. It was designed 7 years before the CX was released but bmc didn't get the jump on Citroen although they could have!! All the story can be seen at http://www.carstyling.ru/en/car/1967_pi ... odinamica/

They probably hadn't got the money to go ahead with it and training the employees to do an acceptable finish to the product would have had Red Robo and his mates keep closing the factories for more wages until it was, like the group, eventually priced out of the market.

Maybe I have revealed too much for this one, but it did catch my eye on the dogwalk this morning.

Could be the first one I have ever noticed, but is it a neat bit of design....you know I think it just might be.

So I expect top of the heads, plenty to go on.
