You must like the Riviera! I have given thought to using hydraulics on the rear of my IH trucklet instead of (helper) air springs. Part thrift, part cussedness.

Chris,

If you do go for purchasing some valves give me a nod as I'm thinking of buying a charging rig and increasing the number of valves makes the deal better.

Riviera is the one vehicle that I fell in love with when I first came to Canada back in the late eighties, the model that really caught me was the 1988/1989 the overall shape was something especially the rear lights and the Opera roof along with the emblem letter 'R' that lit (these are actually CRT's)in the 1989 although the same body shape as the 1990,1991,1992 and the last in that body shape 1993, the '89 had a CRT inside the center console with Florescent Digital display as well as the CRT was a Touch screen (resistive type), all in all after getting the service manuals for these vehicles I learned that they were way ahead of time as I was able to invoke Tech Service Mode menu right from the touch screen via touching a combination of keys as well as I was immediately able to troubleshoot its various body, engine management, ABS problems with codes that allowed me to narrow down for effective solutions, the 1990~1993 didn't have the touch screens but still had a conventional but with digital ACC this allowed me to invoke the Tech menu right within sitting in the driver's seat with the ignition 'on' , I could even turn off some cylinders to verify which was the one not running correctly etc...
I have since been a Buick Riviera and the Reatta fan and have had a few of these including a 1990 White convertible with the White rag top for my daily driving.. also had one a 1992 Olds Toronado Trofeo again with a Colour Touch screen(X axis and the Y axis had sensors that read the position of the finger that touched the various buttons on the display, way ahead of its time as I had not seen this technology in other vehicles ) all these early vehicles were OBD1 compliant, the 1996 onwards are OBD2 and newer compliant.
keeping the Cits for the club meets and going to the rendezvous in Massasschusettes and or just using them as summer weekend drives, they are all completely rust free.
sorry for my elaboration

Not a bad idea as it is workable and not at all hard to do it, it is a matter of writing everything down and drawing everything that you can visualize the system working beforehand don't worry about the cost as this is always a deterrent in any project, best to get a donor cit and retrieve the various bits out of them.

I had actually ordered 4 x sets (x5 each packet) for the DS type of spheres (2 parts with replaceable diaphragms), I had no use for many but had another ideas and used them for pumping N2 into my Air shocks for the Riviera's. Also had ordered 30 valves for the XM and the CX type of spheres as they are both the same size.
I won't need any for quite some time and when I do I have a friend in B.C who will make me some as he is a design freak.

Hydropneumatics so they must also have been into other makes of vehicles that uses this type of suspension setup.

Shortly to be my turn... I got Laura's work email off Dieselman, and sprinkled the requests with a bit of rough Italian. It soon became "nessun problema" to get a response.

402 Euro with DHL Express (160 of that), for the gassing head and 20 Valprex valves (4 sets).

I posted yesterday, that one is shortly to arrive at my house - ordered after the comments of people including yourself. It will need adapting to the Australian gas bottle thread (probably a $100 exercise).

On other websites, I read some criticism that Valprex valves don't hold pressure so well as the OEM sphere plugs, but this isn't likely to be a concern for me. Having the equipment available anytime will be great.

Hi George, and welcome to the forum.

A real coincidence, just half-an-hour ago I tried to order a pack of Valprex valves (9mm) from Tecnosir.
The website did not recognise me as a customer, and I could not find any Valprex product using search.

Having failed to sign in, I just opened a new account, got the confirmatory hit-the-link email, and was able to find the product*** and put together the order.

When it came to finalise/pay (PayPal the only option), site stated that order could not be processed because "No Delivery Method is available". Unable to specify/choose that, and in any case the tiny package would normally just go by postal mail.

I have sent them two emails, and asked for help.
The website has been revamped, and not helpfully.
No-one else appears to sell these valves.

Re: Tecnosir ordering problem

Post by white exec »

George,

Tecnosir have a website problem, but have been in touch asking that I let them know by email what items I required. They then processed it as an order, and raised an invoice and paypal request to pay it. All done very quickly, via Monica in their office/shop/store.

You can email her in English:
shop@tecnosirstore.com, or monica@tecnosir.com
with your account name, delivery address, etc.

Read this thread with interest.

What sort of cost are you looking at to be able to check and regas your own spheres?

I see the tool is €150. Are Valprex valves required and are they left in-situ or just used for gassing?

I note someone said they bought FOUR sets! Just wondering why.

Who became custodian of Jim’s pressure tester? Does anyone know?

I’d rather pile a little bit of money into getting some kit as I had a fair few old Citroen spheres that could do with resurrecting assuming that the membranes are OK. I guess you only find out when you test to see if they can hold pressure over a period of time.

Having said that, the green S1 is riding like a pig at the moment so I think this could be a longer term project idea for me.

The Valprex valves are intended to be left in place on the spheres on the car. They allow gas pressure to be both checked and topped up. Sold in packs of five by Tecnosir.

So all-in cost is the C720 tool, Valprex valves as needed, and a cylinder of nitrogen.
Nitrogen is cheap enough (refill/exchange-cylinder), but you'll need to check the initial deposit charge for taking on a cylinder from your chosen gas supplier. (Here in Spain, initial deposit on a full cylinder was €100, and refill/exchange was €30.)
