K & N air filters

Post by np »

I`ve just put a K & N panel filter on my 406 HDI.All my local factors did`nt do 1 for the 406,or list 1.ECP`s did 1 for the Xantia,but not the 406.
After looking at
knfilters.com
the Xantia filter is the same as the 406 Hdi filter.K & N part 33-2539.Order`d a Xantia filter from ECP`s,£41 with the VAT,fits a treat. On the ECP reciept, its printed as a Xantia/406 filter,so i dont know why they dont list it.
So if you want a filter for your 406,try the Xantia filter,or look on the website. :)

They make a difference in this way:
Paper filters' flow decreases as they get dirty, Oil filters don't. Therefore, between filter replacement or cleaning schedules, engine power-fuel efficiency down in the case of paper filters.
It's not very long before paper filters' flow is impeded, although it varies according to air quality. I would say, certainly within a thousand miles, usually earlier.

I didn't get on with a K&N filter. After about 2000k I got "engine management faulty" message. I took the filter out & put a new paper one in. The K&N one had loads of flies stuck to it almost as if they were attracted to the oil! BTW the message went out again after new filter fitted.

Interesting, so flies are getting in, but you don't see them in a paper filter.

I think the flies become undone in the tight folds of a paper filter and turn to dust quicker. The issues I've come across with K&Ns on a couple of cars in the past - Imprezas being one, Saab 900s being another, is that people over-oil the filter, the oil gets sucked in and gets in the MAF sensor, and buggers it up. My V6 needs a new air filter, I may treat it to a K&N if I keep it.

I hadn't over oiled the K&N filter as it was pre oiled from new. It is strange about the flies though.
