I was hoping to be going on about how I have fixed the clock and how it isn't defaulting all the time. This is because I have found a bad earth on the airbag ecu. Anyway a couple of days after fixing it it started all over again. I have also noticed when it does it the most. Also I did all the relevant volt + ohm tests as suggested by dnsey and Peter all of which came back fine hardly any volt drop even when starting the engine.
Anyway it seems to play up when the car is unlocked as when I get in the time is 00.00 or when starting up the display disappears and gradually reappears slowly (like it's fading up). When all is well it works for up to 4-5 days. Any more ideas anyone it's driving me round the bend believe me try covering up your clock for a couple of days and see how you go without it. :x :x
