What DS5 Head Unit is this?

This is the Connected NAV system.
Main Features: It is a fully integrated Telematics System featuring CarPlay, Android Auto, Real Time Services, Voice Commands, High-Res Display, 3D Navigation, Bluetooth Hands Free & USB. 2 versions of the system are available NAC (Navigation Audio Connectée) and RCC (Radio Couleur Connectée) or Connected Colour Radio, which does not have the Integrated Navigation or Live Services.

After giving up and coming back on another day, I managed to get the DS website to accept the VIN. I don't know whether the website was at fault or me, but we got there in the end.

The downloads it's thrown at me are...

Software of the touch screen (21.08.87.32_NAC-r1)
Cartography (23.0.0-r0)

So that looks like double good news - I have the "NAC" as seen in the filename (newest system fitted to a DS5), and I'm getting free map updates for ever.

All now sitting on a USB stick, awaiting collection of the beast.

Thanks for all the help.

No problem. Their servers can go offline occasionally, but at least you have the files.

A word of caution, The updates MUST be completed with the engine running as if the vehicle goes into economy mode during an update it can brick the system. Updates can take anywhere up to 40 minutes or more depending on the size of the updates. Make sure you have a big enough USB stick (given the compressed file will need to be extracted) onto a formatted to FAT32 USB.

Cheers, wow you reply quickly!

The update instructions say...

It is essential to keep the engine running...
It is recommended not to drive while the updates are being installed...
However, it is possible to drive while the updates

So should I drive while updating or not? I do understand that I won't be able to use sat nav or adjust heating while updating, but is it risky in any way?

Which takes longest - the firmware or the map? I was wondering about sitting still for the firmware so I can watch the many possible messages, then driving after kicking off the map update.

The DS app insisted on formatting the USB stick itself, so it uses whatever format it thinks it needs, it does warn about losing the contents and also checks the capacity. It's actually very well made software.

Mine's on a whopping 128GB stick. The PC app was happy with it but hopefully I don't have the problem that it's too big and/or too new for the car system to recognise.

Ok, so consider if you have Stop Start - as that may also interfere. Personally, I would never drive doing a system firmware update - as there are driving functions that could be affected or cause issues / distractions. I would only consider driving whilst performing a map update as that only works on the mapping files.

Ok, so if using the App, then that will automate the process for you. Just also be aware that this can often fail too! It may get tot he part where it starts copying the extracted files tot he SUB and then fail with a message concerning capacity - regardless of the size of the USB. I've had it happen loads of times, to the extent that I end up manually sorting it out, as it's
quicker.

I wasn't even presented with a download option, the only download link I saw was for the DS app. This does the whole process - download, formatting the USB stick and copying to it, all with a percentage progress update. It's actually really slick.

Have also got the DS phone app. This just needs bluetoothing to the car, but it has spaces where the car journey data will all be populated once it's happy it's connected.

I'm absolutely blown away by how modern and connected this thing is. My Berlingo's only 18 months older but is in a completely different era. But it is a van with windows, and the DS5 cost roughly twice as much when they were both new (£38k vs £19k). But even so, this sort of functionality is all a surprise. Getting free maps is also a huge bonus.

I can access the downloads directly, but even so, the app you use will still download it to your PC and save it in it's preferred location, so you could always manually install it if needed once it has completed that part.

Yes all the later vehicles have phone Apps for the Connected systems. If you want to be nagged all the time when it want you to book a service or log trips, that's all good and wonderful, but you'll find when using it that the App can be very temperamental and will often lose your data and journeys if you like keeping that sort of thing, Many of us have dumped the App as it's more trouble than it's worth. Apart from telling you where you parked the car (I man how many people actually forget where they left their car?) there's not much else of any use.

I keep my car manual as a PDF on my phone anyway so it's there when I need it, but time for a healthy dose of paranoia, in that I'd rather not have Citroen tracking where I am in my car thanks and reminding of things I already know about.

I'm sure it's all a bit novel, and ok if you like all that sort of thing :-D

It may actually be useful, as we'll be sharing the car between us and don't mind the other knowing where we are. If it offers real-time tracking then it could be worthwhile for the other to know whether to put dinner on or whatever. I realise there are phone apps that can do the same, but we've never got round to setting this up.

Tracking the car is a little less intrusive than tracking a person, e.g. I can see she's parked at work but can't see which customers she's out visiting in the pool car.

This level of gadgetry is quite a surprise to me. I thought I was buying a Berlingo with fancy bodywork, turns out it's a lot more than that. I'm guessing that the updated sat nav happened sometime around the Citroen > DS badge facelift? But it may not be as simple as this, perhaps there are DS-badged cars with the older system? I'm assuming that there aren't Citroen-badged DS5's with the Connected Nav, but I don't know.

The head units are shared across all PSA Marques. The system installed will depend on the vehicle, the vehicle build date, the vehicle's electrical architecture (specific multiplexed version in use) and the options available as some of these are optional extras.

I think sat-nav is standard across the range on the DS5, in the UK at least, probably since the Citroen DS5 was launched but pretty sure it has been since the DS DS5 rebranding. This seems to be around the same time as the Connected NAV started being fitted, but I don't know if there were exceptions - either DS ones with an old system or Citroen ones with the newer one.

The manual has a chapter showing one without a sat nav and a half-height text display for basic functions, basically the same hole in the dash but with a blank panel across the bottom half of it. But I've never seen one with this fitted here in the UK, at least among the dozens that I've looked at across the range.

Sat Nav has been around for a while, but the head units are different. Most DS5s had the RT6 system fitted prior to this.

However this was quite an expensive model when new, and when you were spending that sort of cash on a new car you would really want a telematics unit. That's why most of these had the RT6 system fitted.

Just checked the brochure, there was a Citroen DS5 DSign that didn't have sat nav.

But all DS DS5's have it as standard.

Was RT6 a touchscreen? Citroen DS5's used to have a scroll wheel and buttons by the gear stick, which was omitted from the DS version and replaced with a cupholder (for square cups only!), i.e. the sweety tray I mentioned earlier. This was presumably when it became a touchscreen.

But I don't know whether there was an overlap either way of the Citroen > DS facelift and RT6 > Connected upgrade. They probably happened at the same time, but I don't know this for sure.

Models with Touchscreen to not have the 'Navigator'. Those were only for RT6 units. The RT6 was a telematics unit with large colour screen but were not fitted with touchscreens. These were only fitted to SMEG and Caonncted NAC / RCC units.

The DS5 was re-badged in 2015 to DS Automobiles. UK models built up to Jan2015 had either the basic audio and bluetooth system, or were available with the RT6 (eMyWay) telematics syste as I have described. Models build from first of February 2015 had the 7" Touchscreen as the telematics option.

From November 2015 the DS5 had either the 7" Touchscreen or the early version of the Connected Navigation until production ended in 2018 due to poor sales and relatively high costs to purchase.
