Re: Picture(s) of the day....
A truly lovely car which is selling today so I thought it fitted POTD especially as it does present such a pleasing image:

Bugger. However, might I suggest you cover up the QR code? There are some people who are looking for 'public' tests to then either claim positive (so they can then get time off) or negative (for other reasons) results.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I see you have been consulting the new highway code stuff, so hopefully a mild case Mick.
Here's a puzzler of the day for POTD. Came across this little but important snippet of interest today. My memory of the place where it is was from 1971 ish catching Pollack from the harbour, and the B&B owner cooked them up for breakfast the next day
Regards Neil

So far it does seem to be ok but not in the mood for digging so I'll just have a punt at some sort of seismograph!!NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 19:50 I see you have been consulting the new highway code stuff, so hopefully a mild case Mick.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
It is indeed. Down at Newlyn in Cornwall, ....The Cornish Hut that gave rise to sea level benchmark.
Tidal observatory, Newlyn for SW4628https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-56935097
It was measurements made in the hut, and completed on 30 April 1921, that established mean sea level.
And it's this surface, known as Ordnance Datum Newlyn (ODN), that became the reference against which all other elevations were compared.
Every hill, mountain and building in Britain could be described as being so many feet above the Cornish benchmark.
The building beside the lighthouse at the end of Newlyn's south pier is the tidal observatory. It was here that UK sea level was defined, and it houses the UK's fundamental benchmark - a brass bolt from which every other benchmark, and hence other heights above sea level are measured.

Nice they appear across the country and usually with the old historic county names, in many Counties across the country. Some areas like the region of Cumbria to the west of Carlisle carry many such items in a "land that time forgot" way, being areas of the country less well travelled. It appears that East Lothian to the left hand side of the A1 (travelling in the Edinburgh Direction) is a rich area for the literal fingerpost sign with the hand and pointing finger.

Told you it was easy to contribute to
No doubt accurate to 1/8 th of a mile in its heyday, but now to get from Pitcox crossroads to Dunbar you have the A1 in the way with no crossing point, so you have to detour up to the next roundabout.
