Pug 306 brake light wires

Post by picassodad »

Please help...

Pug 306 2l hdi phase 3? Estate

Please would someone have a wiring diagram for the brake light switch for this car please.

The wires going to the brake light switch are 2 pairs of 2 wires.

Where do these wires come from/go to please.

The brake lights do not work and have been traced back from the lights to the loom just before it disappears from the drivers footwell to the centre console area, then disappear behind the dash.

I suspect a dicky brake light switch, a 2 terminal switch, but as said there are 2 pairs of 2 wires going to the switch...

A wiring diagram would be great help but I may have to continue to remove the complete dash board to get to the switch and wiring, a real pita pita pita if a job.

Thanks in advance for all help etc....

You have two pairs of wires. One pair is for the brake lights (and letting the relevant electronics know the brake pedal had been pressed, via a push to make switch), while the second pair is to disconnect the cruise control (via a push to break switch). Regardless of whether your car actually HAS cruise control it was cost effective for Peugeot to minimise costs by using the same brake pedal switch and only a few wring looms.

Thanks hellrazor...

Ok I made an extension to the 2 loom wires that are joined together at the brake light switch normally, and the same 2 at the switch terminal.

I did the same thing to the two wires joined at the other switch terminal, one going to the brake lights I assume ?

So now there are two seperate wires going the the switch, one being 12 v ( battery voltage ) power to the switch when the ign is on.

The switch is doddjy but tested ok during alterations. The brake lights didn't work until the wires by the switch were wiggled a bit, with the switch working ok during at least 20 presses of the brake.

So a doddjy switch and possible terminal block.

I will find out about a new or switch and a suitable alternative. An alternative switch should be easy enough to make work reliably, a normally open switch, close when brakes pressed. The altered wiring is very easy to access, unlike before.

It works ok for now.....as is I bet it won't work during the mot, sods law!

Check on the GSF website. You will need to put in the vehicle reg (to get the right part), but this looks promising;

Thanks hellrazor, was just about to post asking for mail order Peugeot oe parts and the Peugeot parts exploded view of the brake light switch area. The part number for the clutch switch would be a good idea as well...

I will give gsfcarparts a look-see now...

You could try signing up on the GSF website first. That then gets you access to their discounts, which can be quite substantial. I bought a pair of wishbones for my C5, and the normal price was around £150 each. I paid around £140 for the pair. They also can go 'Click and Collect' or home delivery.

Might someone know, the brake light switch, where it fits into it's holder, is the holder a plastic bit that fits into the steel bracket, and then the brake light switch fits into the plastic bit. The brake light switch has ridges and does not screw in by the looks of things.

A parts exploded view would show if the plastic " bit" is there or not...

Amazon do the brake light switch febi 17217 at about £5...

Amazon brake light switch arrived, all good and keen price.

The plastic bit the switch fits into is being hunted down, I have the part number now.

Thanks for all help, greatly appreciated.

Mot will be booked in the next few days and in the road again soon...
