I've just had similar problem on my Xantia HDI (110HP RHZ engine) although mine was fine until up to working temperature when it belched black smoke. It also lacked power.

The problem was an inch long split in the intercooler rubber pipe right where it joins the metal stub of the inlet manifold, this resulted in lack of boost and consequent over fuelling and black smoke.

Temporarily fixed with tape, boost has returned to a pleasing level and the black smoke is no more. :-D

That makes sense: black smoke usually means too much fuel, or not enough air.

In my garage is said pipe... you can't easily fit an aftermarket solution, as IIRC it's different bores at each end. If you're interested I'll dig it out and make sure it's still OK, then see how much it would be to post it (not heavy, but it is rather long!!)

Hello Richard,

Yes I am interested.
I did notice the difference in bore between the main part of the pipe and the end where it fits onto the inlet manifold. Initially I looked at various suppliers of silicone hose and concluded it's a bit of a palaver to home brew something that will fit and do the job properly so an original hose would be great.

Thanks,
Ted
