ds4 2.0 bluehdi auxiliary belt tensioner issue.

Post by shedman »

Noticed the other day the top belt tensioner was chattering up and down at tick over speed and could not get it to run smoothly. Checked both tensioners and both seemed to have plenty of spring tension, the alternator pully is the fixed welded type ( does not have a clutch mechanism). So today I bit the bullet and purchased new gates belt and both tensioners but still the issue exists, has anybody come across this or any ideas what could be causing this.

I have a similar problem with my DS4 Crossback. The Auxiliary belt was shredding from the third ring from the right. After much dismantling I have found that the tensioner pulley is about 6 mm offset to the left , as viewed standing in front of the car. Viewed from under the vehicle I cannot see how the pulley is out of line. The pulley on the tensioner runs perfectly. The tensioner spring appears to be operating correctly. I am at a loss to see where the malfunction is. Without the ability to use Service Citroen these days, I have little in the way of resources to assist me with this rectification.

I know the dynamic tensioner has to be pegged to maintain the tension whenever replacing the belt on these... there is a marking system on the dynamic tensioner to check whether the belt needs replacing too.

I was going to answer this earlier, but had router issues, then had to go out.

We can supply you with live PARTS data and Parts diagrams, but we don't subscribe to the technical documentation as it costs thousands per year for all the marques, However myself or other members may already have some repair info depending on vehicle and year that may help.

Donation info is in the table below:

I see since I've got back that you've already donated now, so thanks for that. So any part info you need for up to 2 years, just ask. :-D

Pop your VIN up fore me as I don't have your DS4 VIN and I'll stick the parts info up for the alternator belt

Vin for Crossback is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

Looks like I’ll be sourcing the parts out of UK. These models are as scarce as rocking horse droppings in Australia. There were 25 imported here of this model.

Hmmm...
So you have a Dec 2015 build DS4 Don - your config says it has been personalised - and doesn't indicate SCR system - but it is Euro 6.1 standard, so I'm guessing it does have the SCR system fitted?

Regarding the alternator setup - unfortunately this is on the DW10FC engine and has been modified from earlier systems, so the tensioners are all different and I don't have the repair guide for this one.

But as for parts:
Dona ALternator.PNG
So this has 2 dynamic tensioner rollers (3) & (4) and has a reversible alternator system.

At least this one comes with a belt roller kit, item (50), which includes both the tensioners and the belt, which has already been superseded with a later part (1616876980) which is £205.92 inc. 20% UK VAT.

Nearly had a feint when I saw 'STT 6 speed....' which I started to think you had a one of those Carlos Fandango semi-auto piloted boxes  , until I read on and it said AM6 :-D

Tensioner 4 is the knackered part which I can source in UK for 34 pounds. Getting the old part out of said car is the hard bit. Service Citroen used to have an excellent service for repair processes but some bright spark with PSA closed it down. I cannot imagine what was the reason.

Yes, my car has the Stop/start system. It is a waste of time in this quiet rural setting; a bit like West Wales I suggest. It has all the other goodies on it except electric seat mechanism as on my C5, the German car beater.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

No worries - just be aware that item (4) has already also been superseded with a new part (1616876780) £188.58 over here.

So whether they had issues with the earlier part (1611608580) I can't say, but the other tensioner (3) has retained its original part number.

Yes, Stop Start a total no go here - not through lack of trying despite a lack of traffic lights in our case - just a crap battery
/ system so it works when the battery is fully charged for one time, then packs in never to work again! And that's from new....

You don't happen to have instructions on taking out the alternator on this type of motor. I don't want to move it completely but merely to move it back somewhat so that I can more easily insert a remote bolt relating to the tensioner. It took two of us 2 hours to extract said bolt. I think my next smaller type car will have a small type engine such as the Puretech 1.2 litre so that more complex jobs are easier to access. Shoehorning engines is OK if nothing goes wrong.
