Well above the definition of this thread but also rare enough to warrant a mention I think, I have never forgotten the image of James May standing in front of one to reveal that his knee was higher than the bonnet line!! : :-D

A most interesting read, but am I misunderstanding something? In the ad, the 4th photo down (counting the first group as one) is of a pile of service invoices, the most recent on top.

Does the first line of the top invoice not say "Recover the vehicle from marsh"? Can anyone explain?

I was under the impression that the FE Victor and the Opel Rekord used the same floorpan. When I was on holiday in the early 70s with my parents the centre rubber mounting of the two-piece propshaft started to give trouble with a thumping rattle type of noise. We were on our way from Spain to France via Andorra and I located the GM Opel dealer in the AA continental touring guide and we went there.

The mechanic put the car on a lift ramp and went underneath, He did the sucking through his teeth noise and shook his head. In my extremely poor Spanish I said "Es mismo Opel Rekord" ("The same as Opel Rekord") and he looked surprised. Anyway, I don't know what he did but a day or so later we picked the car up and continued the journey.

I suppose you could argue that sharing a floorpan is not the same as designing the look of the car panels, which was clearly British.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.
