Parking sensor fault DS5

Post by Graham369 »

Just replaced a rear parking sensor on my DS5 after someone pushed in the rear bumper and crushed the old sensor, plastic bumper sprung back and all ok, but service light on the dashboard alarm sounds and now no sensors are working but reversing camera is still operative, is there a fuse blown? not all the fuses have a description in the manuals online or in the car, anyone else had this problem?

Did you change the sensor? These are incredibly sensitive and do not like any knocks. If you haven't then it's likely damaged one or more of them. Diagbox can tell you which ones are not working. If any one of the sensors is detected as faulty or there is a problem with the wiring, the ECU disables the system for safety reasons.

Hi Marc thanks for the quick response, yes I've replaced the damaged sensor with a new one, I will attempt to check the wiring hasn't been damaged, regarding the ECU where is that situated on the DS5 and can it be or does it need resetting? sounds like there's no fuse breaker on the parking sensors then? thought that was a bit too easy!
Thanks a lot Graham

You can't reset the ECU, but I would recommend a diagnostic with Diagbox to find out what fault code is being throw up.

The Parking Assistance ECU is stored in the rear left side of the boot:- item (5).

Ok here's the update, bought an aftermarket replacement sensor which just did not work!
the listings said it was ok for my DS5 and for around a tenner thought it was worth a go, forget it! Checked with the Citroen Garage and they wanted £120 for a new one well that's just ridiculous, picked up a second hand one for £25 and it works a treat, job done hope this post helps other owners with the same problem just make sure you get the exact replacement sensor then all should be well, many thanks all

Hi Graham, thanks for the update.

It is a fact that a lot of aftermarket fakes or cheaper components (in general) are just not up to the original specification and often involves buying 2 or 3 times. I always recommend original parts where possible as it is often just so predictable having seen this happen hundreds of times.

I am pleased you have it sorted now and I'm sure your update will be another testament to getting original parts whenever possible.

Hi,
Does anyone know where you can purchase a genuine/original rear parking sensor?

Thanks

Can anybody tell me we're the parking sensor fuse is located. If I turn on the parking sensors I get a system failure. Could it just be a fuse issue as ther were working fine but suddenly stopped

No, the fuse won't help if you are getting a parking assistance fault. It means one or more sensors or the ECU is faulty. One of more faulty sensors results in a fault message and it will shut off for safety reasons.
You need to get it diagnosed with Diagbox preferably and it will identify which sensor is faulty, or return a fault code if something else.

Hi, I reversed into a pole this morning and seem to have damaged the right rear parking sensor. How does one clip this out? It seems terribly cramped in there. Don’t know if it’s worse because I have a factory tow bar fitted?

You have to remove the rear bumper to get at the clips that hold them in.

Precautions to be taken:
  • Do not drop a proximity sensor
  • Do not drum on the diaphragm of a proximity sensor
  • Do not use any sharp tool to remove a proximity sensor
  • Do not sink any instrument into the resin part of the proximity sensor
  • Do not apply any lateral or rotational forces on the outer ring of a proximity sensor

hi, I have got a DS5 2013 diesel 2.0 Among other technical issues the parking assist system wouldn't work. The mechanic performed the diagnosis using special device which gave a report on 4 faulty sensors- one at the front and three at the rear. Now I have to order them but before that I need to understand whether there are of the same type or different?

No they are not all the same. It depends which one at the front has gone as the front outer ones are different to the inner 2 front sensors, which are the same as the rears.
