Peugeot 407 Hdi 2.0 2009 Brake Lights not working ABS/ESR er

Post by barrymurphy »

Hello,

Would anyone have a wiring diagram from the brake pedal to the brake lights at rear?

I believe my two errors could be related and something along the wiring route is playing up.

My rear windscreen brake light is working and bulbs right and left are ok.

Even though the rear windscreen brake light was working I changed the brake light switch.

Regards

Barry

That's a bit confusing Barry :-k -you've said there are 2 errors without mentioning what the errors are, but said both the third high level and left and right brake lights are working ok? Or are you saying the left and right brake 'bulbs' have been tested are are lighting up, but not with the brake switch?

If so, pop up your VIN and I'll take a look at the wiring diagram.

Apologies, errors in the title.

Bulbs have been tested and are good but will not light up when brake pedal pressed. Third one in windscreen lights up.

That the first error, second is ABS warning with ESP/ASR error.

I am assuming, maybe incorrectly, that these are connected.

thanks

Here you go Barry.

The brake lights are controlled by the BSI.

There are 2 separate earths - one for each side of the rear brake lights - so I don't see the earths both having problems at the same time, so you can probably rule that out.

Check fuses F7 and F9 (both 10A) in the Engine Fusebox as these relate to the Twin Brake Switch before doing anything else though.

The wiring diagram for your vehicle has several possibilities - it lists both these fuses as having that function, but it may mean one or the other. There are 3 levels of BSI and these also differ depending on the Injection variant fitted too. So that is why it may be one or the other and why I included both for you to check.

It won't hurt to check both though of course. But don't rely on a visual check - test them with a multimeter as I'm sure you know

Can the brake switch be identified on the wiring diagram above?

Is there a wiring diagram for the brake switch? Apologies for the questions.

I assume the wiring diagram for the brake switch would also feed into the BSI.

The twin brake switch is not split between the 3rd level and 'normal' brake lights - it's split between the brake lights and the cruise control. If the centre brake light is OK, the the switch is working, and the BSI is getting and processing the signal. The earths appears to be common to all lamps on each side, so unlikely to be an earth problem if the other lights are working. I would check whether you actually have 12V at the correct pin (1) on the rear lamp connectors, and that you have the correct bulbs fitted the correct way round, and that they are actually OK (e.g. check with a multi meter or by substitution).

Sorry, just caught up with posts. As Richard says the twin brake switch is part of the cruise control diagram - below and component 2120.

Other Hardware components are on the wiki here in sections: https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/wiki/Elect ... ring_Codes

Hello,

Got to check the vehicle yesterday.

All bulbs tested independently and all bulbs, including both filaments in the double filaments are working.
Side lights and indicators work ok, (so one filament of the double filament bulbs lights up)
I tested all fuses in engine bay and in glove box with a multimeter and all fuses were good. Continuity across all.
The top brake light still works when the pedal is pressed.
I also tested my cruise control, it works and it exits cruise when the brake pedal is pressed.

I am at a loss as to what this could be?

Thanks

Barry
