What actual parts did you replace? If you also replaced the Com 2008 unit inside the steering wheel (that holds all the lighting and wiper stalks), then that may be one reason, as these are different depending on features and options as well as build date. This is important as some units were hands free starting and some weren't and these had different com units.

That's why I asked you exactly what has been replaced. The electronic module behind the steering wheel is specific to the vehicle and is responsible for handling the immobiliser data and communicating this to the BSI. SO if you have replaced that unit, it may be the incorrect one for your vehicle.

Example this is the unit I am talking about:

That grey box is the electronic immobiliser that locks the steering wheel. If it is removed and refitted it needs re-programming.

I can't help on this one, sorry, you'll have to run a Global Test and see if you can identify the unit from the list, just be careful to make notes and don't change anything that you are not sure of, as there is no backup! Take notes of any settings before you do anything.

Not sure i understand but can you not bypass the auto detection & enter VIN manually?
not had much dealings with the proximity key systems & electronic steering locks on these cars.

Thanks for the update - it's probably like the transponder chips in the fob - which can also only be programmed once - makes sense.

There isn’t such a thing - an immobiliser is a descriptive term to denote the particular system used, which is made up of multiple components depending on what vehicle, electronic architecture and options you have fitted.

For example, there can be an electronic steering wheel lock or a manual lock with a key, then there is the transponder system incorporating receiver aerials and transmitters, immobiliser chips in the key fobs, all of which work together with the BSI and the Engine ECU to authorise vehicle unlocking, and starting.

So you’ll have to be a bit more specific as to what you are referring to.
