Wireless charging

Post by GPark »

Been doing a wee bit of rooting around my DS7 and found a couple of small connectors on the plastic tray under the removable cover in the storage bay under the centre screen, anyone know what these are for, hoping it’s something to do with wireless charging so that I am able to just buy the mat and plug it in, any help appreciated

If it's in the area under the infotainment system it will have a mat like this:

If you have this type of mat with the twirly design, then you likely have the wireless charging option. Charging is handled by the smartphone and only one device should be charged at a time. You just lay it on the mat and you may get an indication on the infortainment system that it is charging.

Our Forum software masks the VIN automatically from public view on submission for that very reason. Only staff can see it.

If you see this symbol on the screen, it will indicate wireless charging status (Off, Fixed Green, Flashing Orange, Fixed Orange) if you have wireless charging.

The sockets under the mat may be simple USB type sockets for charging non-wireless charging devices or for connecting a smart phone or storage device with music files on for example.

No point looking for this sign because I don’t have wireless charging, the connectors are def not usb or for connecting a storage device they are hidden under the removable mat in the staircase area, cables are connected to a plastic tray via the connectors but nothing plugged into them, only thing I can think of the would plug in would be the charging mat for wireless charging

I appear to have Wireless Charging in my DS7 (2019). If I put my phone onto the mat a green LED (located at top back in the middle of the recess) lights up briefly. Unfortunately my phone (Moto G6) doesn't support wireless charging so i have to use a cable into the USB port just above the mat. I know you can get adaptors that fix to the phone but i can't be bothered. Next phone maybe?

I have heard of battery packs that clip onto certain phones. They are charged wirelessly, and then (when you press a button on the battery pack) they charge the phone they are connected to. THAT (if I am right) may be worth a look.

Yes you can get get 'Wireless Charging Power Packs' but they are £30+ then you have to plug the power pack into your phone to charge it so you might just as well plug the phone into a regular wall charger or the car USB powered cable.

My only beef is that when ever I am driving and my wife plugs her phone in the main LCD screen changes to the comms page and I have to switch it back to navigation manually.

Keep your eyes on the Aldi/Lidl websites. They may do such a device, and for less money. I monitor them to see if there are any useful car related items turning up (which I then post up on this forum).

Those phones 'cases' are basically batteries and are not wireless. You can only have wireless charging on a phone that uses induction charging.

In the case of an iPhone for example, the inside bottom of the case has a lightning jack that the phone plugs into as it is inserted into the case. The case then acts as a back up power source or for charging the phone several times when pressing the button on the case:

Yes, you can get converters like this that will pass the charge to the phone:

I have found 'wireless backs' for iPhones, but not (unfortunately) for the Moto G6;
