Sucking oil out of a hand grenade engine.

Post by lexi »

Can anyone say if Pela 6000 will suit the 1.6hdi I have in the C5. It is a 56 plate. I have heard that the tube suits some dipsticks more than others.

Used a Pela 6000 on the 1.6 HDI some years ago. It was the first engine it failed on.

Thanks Adrian. Probably the twisty route into the sump.

Just couldn't get the tube to reach the oil. The only time it's failed & I use it on quite a few engines.

I just dropped the oil out today through the sump plug. I have the wee brass pump that sucks oil. I put a bit of copper brake pipe in the hose and made a bit of a u bend in it. This was fed up the sump plug hole and was enough to submerge in the puddle of oil I made by having the car up on front ramps. I sucked another bit out with this set up. I think that sump is empty.
This will do for now till we see how she goes.

There's Youtube videos of people doing some quite simple but effective modifications of those sump plug holes. The simplest was screwing a slide hammer into the plug hole and slide hammering the plug hole down so it was pointing 'down' and not trapping any oil.
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

I seen that one Bobbins and thought of making it. Tiny little sump it is. If I keep this car it will be 5k a year and 2 oil changes. I will give it 2 quick changes first with the cheap Mannol 5-30 fully synthetic, then the Total low saps 5/30. It will be tried out first and until then The Donk will still be used till end nov, less somebody wants it for spares vehicle.
